Revelations......

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone!

I thought I'd start a thread for a change because after reading all your awesome threads I needed to jump in!!! Hope you don't mind!

Revelations.....about myself....since my lap band surgery. Call it an NSV, a perk, a mini victory....call it what you like....but I think that everything I'm experiencing is AWESOME!!! I'm learning so much about the old me that I've never realized or thought about before. And I know you'll agree! ;-)

One particular revelation for me is that I no longer have an over-abundance of napkins in my car!!! I know you can ALL relate to this...c'mon....fess up! :D

But, the truth is, I went through the car wash last week and wanted to wipe my mirrors afterwards. I have always had napkins coming out from every nook and cranny in the car. But as I searched frantically.....there was not ONE single solitary napkin to be found.....!!!

The REVELATION??? Well, I realized then how often I had gone to drive-thru windows to or from my destination...and now that I don't, I have no napkins!!! Hey, I can live with that! The benefits are far greater!!

Tell me yours.....and I know we've all had them....be they big or small....tell us what you have experienced....What did it REVEAL to yourself about YOU???

Nancy*

:D

I hadn't thought of that, Nancy, but you're absolutely right! I put a couple of packs of Kleenex in the car because it's not bursting with paper napkins anymore. Hey, Burger King's loss is Kimberly-Clark's gain.

Heard a couple of paper napkin suppliers are going out of business Nancy.. Hmm they may be looking for you.Ryan. I too had to get saran wrap and now my house is piling up with them little container you get when you take what you don't finish home from a resturant.

Actaully looking for a local tupperware PArty lol

Nancy your post gave me a real laugh... I read to fast the fisrt time and didn't read "solitary" as "solitary". LOL thought what the hell...Women use them things for the wierdest stuff...

Actually when I worked at the gas company when I was 18 we uses straps with clips and hook up and used them as sweet bands on our foreheads. Maybe it was just me getting in touch with my femanine side.

Nancy, I confess to being a very sloppy eater preband. My NSV is that I haven't had a stain on the front of my shirt for a long time (used to happen daily.) I was so fat I couldn't find my mouth, but I'd sure try.

All sorts of little things for me, like I bent down in the hallway at work to tie my shoe. UNHEARD of pre-band (I used have to sit and yank my foot up to tie it closer to eye-level.)

Here's another good one: Co-worker brought hommade eggrolls Monday and told me to bring some home to hubby. I forgot Monday. I forgot Tuesday, and I forgot Wednesday. Pre-band, there wouldn't be any leftovers for hubby. And if there was an abundance, I'd have notes everywhere and computer alerts popping up to remind me to bring food home. And I'd leave a message on home machine for hubby to call and remind me. Lisa B. actually forgot about eggrolls. I talk about eggrolls a lot. Can you tell how I feel about them?

OMG!!! I had such a laugh reading all of your replies!!! We're all in the same boat....and all know what it's like. We've all made the same excuses...the dog ate it....what Cookies???.....etc etc.....feels good to finally admit it to someone....almost like true confessions!

Greg....I worry about you sometimes!!! But then the board wouldn't be the same without your sense of humor!!! Your feminine side??? Hmmm...interesting.....want details!!! :-) and the sweatband....nice...real nice! Now do you know it's SOLITARY??? Although i could have really used one of those padded thingys the other day......had a hole in my chin.... :-) :banana

My stomach doesn't operate the copy machine at work any more. I'm not kidding, it used to make copies all by itself. I'd be standing over the copy machine and lean over to grab something, and my stomach would hit the keys. You would think after the first time I'd be horrified and stand a different way, but it happened all the time. My stomach also used to type when I answered the phone cuz it would press on my keyboard.

I myself can now buckle my seat belt without any problems and the biggest one so far I can now tie my own shoelaces and my DH does not need to do it for me when we are out in public. And the funniest when I would stand straight up and try to look down at my toes before I would have to try and move everything else out of the way or moosh it down to see but no more I can see just fine. I love my new self so many new NSV's everyday that I am so amazed and I thank the Lord for this new chance to just be me.

Hi,

Hate to be crude, but I can clean all my nooks and crannies with ease in the shower. When I was at my highest weight. I had trouble wiping myself properly when toileting. SO yes, life is much better now!

Has anyone paid attention to their surgical scars? When I was first banded, they were all over my body. Now that I've lost 60 pounds they're all closer together, so they're all right in front of me. I used to have to moosh (I like that word) my belly with my hands to see the lower one, and now I just look down at it.

I was sitting in bed, putting lotion on my feet the other night, when I realized that I was sitting cross-legged (Indian style) (quite comfortably). I didn't even think about it before I did it. Been years!

Lisa, you slay me!

I can now go down the aisle of the bus facing forward instead of going sideways. And someone can sit next to me comfortably on the bus and we don't touch. And when I have to run to catch the bus, I don't even get out of breath.

Oh, and I lost my wallet on the bus and someone turned it in and I got it back the same day. OK, nothing to do with weight loss, I know, but I thought as long as I was talking about bus victories...

Wow, Nancy, you got your wallet back on a city bus? That is wonderful!! I went to a Christmas party last night. Four cars got broken into and women's purses were taken. I'd left my wallet in the glove compartment. (I know, really dumb!) But it was still there. Whew! (I learned my lesson.)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
