3 weeks post op and Doing well! Ask me anything!

Recommended Posts

I am 3 weeks post op and everything is going great. My insurance is Medicaid in Colorado and I had a 6 month waiting period. I had to take nutrition classes for 6 months before they would approve surgery and I had to be at or below my starting weight by the last nutrition class.

My starting weight was 389lbs Dec. 2015. Surgery was on June 13th. Weight day of surgery was 325lbs.

Today I weigh 309lbs and am losing roughly 1-1.5lbs/day.

Well, not to mention I feel much better, but by losing weight pre surgery, you reduce your chances of any complications. Your surgeon will tell you, they have an easier time getting inside and doing the surgery the more weight is lost pre surgery. Also, some surgeons will require some of their patients lose some weight first before they are put under knife, depends on what the starting weight is. Also, the surgeon wants to see that you are making an effort to change your eating and lifestyle habits before surgery, because if someone isn't taking weight loss seriously, a lot of people expect the surgery to do all the work, when most importantly, it's about being ready to abandon old habits and commit to making healthier decisions.

If someone got the surgery and we're not ready to change how they are eating, they would find themselves very miserable.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
