Sent from my iPhone Why in the world would you refuse IV fluids if you are so dehydrated? You NEED 64 oz of fluid just to stay even. If you are severely dehydrated it is going to be almost impossible to drink enough to catch up (hence the IV fluid). Dehydration is life threatening. You are already experiencing health repercussions. If you are making this decision based on the numbers on the scale then please, please get rid of your scale. tanyarahmes 119 Posted June 29, 2016 I promise you I will go back if I am not feeling better today they did draw blood and if it comes back not normal I told the doc I would come back. I had both my girls with me and did not want to have to be there for hrs also after I came home and I started pushing fluids every 15 minutes and I did get in over 64 for the first time. I feel better today I have already got in 30 oz by 11:00 I also was able to eat a little broth first time also. Sent from my iPhone
WLSResources/ClothingExch 3,444 Posted June 29, 2016 @@tanyarahmes, this isn't the time to fuss about weight loss. It will come soon enough. Your main concern right now is post-surgical healing and health. Hydration is a large part.
Farcaster 80 Posted June 29, 2016 I'd have to echo what others have said here. The important part right now is not weightloss -- the focus should be on recovery first. The pounds will come off, don't worry.
B1essed1 61 Posted June 29, 2016 sugar free popsicles from Walmart are my best friend! I now stay hydrated at all times.
OKCPirate 5,323 Posted June 29, 2016 How much Water did they say to get in? Most say 64 oz. I got a 64 oz bottle, and would fill up my little shot glass all day. It taught me to sip constantly.

The first few days she said get at least 30 oz but work up to 64 oz it's just so hard my stomach hurts feels so full after couple sips as of today I have got about 45 in Water and about 8 oz Protein so I have done good today. OKCPirate 5,323 Posted June 29, 2016 @@tanyarahmes - IMHO that will be rapidly unsustainable. Way too little in both categories. I don't know you and I don't know all your circumstances, but this is going to be a problem (gall stones, IV's et al) if you continue much longer. There are ways to start boosting both, please feel free to PM if you want, but I would be raising this as a serious red flag to your support team. My opinion. Farcaster 80 Posted June 30, 2016 64 oz is the target my doctors set, and I can tell by other signs that it is about the right amount given no additional strenous excercise. How many days post-op are you now? I had a lot of problems drinking as well, but the doctos didn't release me from the hospital until I could show that I could at least come close to meeting my target liquids. Protein they weren't as concerned about, but hydration is super important. On my first day back from the hospital (post-op day 4) I was a few ounces shy, but I've made it every day since. I think OKCPirate has the right of it. You should probably raise this is a serious concern to your support team.

theimprovedjulie 4 Posted July 10, 2016 I am 17 days post op. I ended up in the ER yesterday after suffering for 2 days from severe light headedness upon standing. DEHYDRATION IS SERIOUS! Even though I was getting min 64 oz it is not enough! I ended up getting 96 oz plus the IV fluids & feel better today. Please please get some fluids! rebecca wills 190 Posted July 11, 2016 Electrolytes are essential when drinking liquids. For every day of the summer you require at least eight half your body weight in oz. The 64 oz of Water is very conservative. And to keep your balance you must add to one drink some sort of electrolyte during day. If your body gets what it needs it will start giving you what you need! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
