Day 7; no weight loss yet - when did you start losing?

Recommended Posts

I know the stomach swelling can last for a few weeks, but I was hoping to see some movement on the scale by now. :/. I've been getting in 100g Protein, 64oz Water and 2 miles walking each day, and my calories are between 400-800. I dropped a pound around day 4 but regained it. Could drinking salty broth have kept me retaining water, so weight loss doesn't show? My clothes fit the same (because if that probably-swollen stomach). When did you start losing weight after surgery?

Try not to worry too much. It probably is still all the Water weight from the IV fluids given in the hospital. Salty both could be partly to blame....try sticking to low sodium both. For me it was about 2 weeks before I felt like I got rid of all extra Fluid from surgery and hospital stay. It's a good time to take your measurements if you haven't already done so....write them down so you will have them to refer back to.

It sounds like you are doing fantastic with your Protein and fluids! It took me a while to work up to those numbers. I know it's hard to be patient but just keep doing what you're doing....(maybe lower the salt intake) and you'll soon see the scale start moving in the right direction.

Some folks do better if they just put the scale away and weigh only one a week, or even less. If the scale stresses you out you may want to consider that.

Good luck to you and keep us informed on your progress!!!

Jessjames, I got really lucky - nothing that I did, just random luck - in terms of no nausea. And after the first couple of days I could take "real" sips/gulps instead if fearful baby sips. So, I can down an 8oz Protein shake in five minutes. No adverse effects other than tummy gurgles. 4 of those shakes daily (which is my dietician' request) plus a couple of bowls of broth (with unflavored Protein added) or Jello gets me over 100 grams.

I hope I'm not stretching my sleeve with so much Fluid (more than 4oz at a time). Hopefully these just pass on through instead of staying in the sleeve like the upcoming purees and real food will.

Anyway, with no nausea problem, I can focus my anxiety on lack of weight loss, and whether I'll ever have a bowel movement (sigh).

I have no idea because my surgeon strongly encourages people to not weigh until they are four weeks post-op, and I followed his guidance. He says that people are so variable in terms of how they recover from surgery that weight loss is super erratic in the first several weeks, and for many people, the scale just tends to stress them out. Stress is bad for weight loss, so jumping on the scale and not getting the results you want isn't helping, it's hurting. You are doing a great job following your program. Keep doing that, and put the scale away for a while and the weight will come off, I promise.

Constipation could also be a reason your weight isn't going down......You should contact your surgeon's office for advice on what you should take to fix that!!! :) Constipation is nothing you have to live with.

Thanks, guys. I did email my doctor yesterday about the Constipation and am waiting to hear back. Maybe there's ten pounds of sludge in my gut to explain my stall - ha ha, a girl can dream!

Wow 100g Protein is great for Day 7. Sounds like you still have IV Fluid retention which can come off at any moment/day now. It will all happen soon then you see the scale quickly go down...then stall, then down, then stall...you get my drift...seems to be the normal cycle of this whole experience!

Wow. I'm on day 7 and it takes me between 15 and 30 minutes to finish a 1/2 cup of the Protein Shake. I definitely can't take large sips. If I do too much, it hurts big time. And, although I am finally meeting my hydration goals, I haven't yet been able to hit both hydration and protein.

I'm surprised that 4 shakes is your target. Mine is drink 1/2 cup of something like the Premier Protein Shakes, 5 times a day. That's a little under two of those shakes.

It's crazy how different all the post-op diets are! Yup, my clinic wants us to get 4 shakes in per day - yet two friends of mine weren't allowed ANY shakes for the first two post-OP weeks.

I'm 7 days out and lost 3 pounds. I'm actually concerned because I can easily get down fluids. I can gulp them down just like a did before and can get in my 3 Protein shakes. Sometimes I wonder if he actually did the procedure but I'm not really hungry.

I'm pleased to report that I've finally joined the Clean Colon Club. Hopefully weight loss will soon follow.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
