How many calories a day to lose?

Recommended Posts

I know this answer will be different for everyone, but how many calories a day do you eat a day while in the losing phase? I'm 5'4" and approximately 10 weeks out. My plan says 800-1200, but that seems like a wide range. What works for you?

800-1200 is likely much less than how much you were eating before surgery so you should lose weight whether your calories are 800, 900, etc. Personally, I was below that range at 10 weeks out- around 700 calories. Not because it was better for weight loss but because I couldn't eat that much. My plan called for Protein first, veggies then starch carbs. My diet did not have a lot of calories: 1-2 oz of Protein and a couple of bites of veggies at each meal is maybe 200 calories total. If I added a snack like a few nuts, I would get to 700.

At 10 weeks, I was 600-800. At 3.5 years out, I still need to eat 800 or less to lose.

I was eating up to 1200 at that stage. As long as the foods you are eating is Protein filled, you will lose. Now at five months out, I eat up to 1400 calories a day and still lose a steady 3lbs a week. My goal was to get above 1000 calories and stay there as soon as possible (which was about 4 weeks out for me ). I did not want to ruin my metabolism to the point where it is impossible to maintain long term.

My goal is to eat 1200-1400 a day currently, and when I've reached my goal weight I should be able to maintain in the 1800-2000 calorie range.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
