I live alone, so I don't know if I snore or have sleep apnea. I told my doctor, I don't think I do, so she did not order a sleep study. But, what if I do?

I would freak out wearing one of those masks at night that help you breath. I am severely claustrophobic and I toss and turn all night. I sleep on my side too, never my back.

Is anyone else having some of these issues too?

I would not worry. If the Dr didn't feel like a study was necessary - I'm sure you will be just fine.

You should definitely have a sleep study. They do have mask that don't cover your entire face. I had a sleep study a few years ago and I never usex the machine until now because my Dr. told me the risk if I didn't start before surgery. Once you have the surgery if you need it, you'll be taken off of it.

I think you should have a sleep study done just in case. Ask to have an at home sleep study. I did because it was more convenient for me and it's cheaper for the insurance company. I have sleep apnea and I got a mask that was comfortable for me (nasal mask) I didn't like the other mask that covered nose and mouth I felt like I was suffocating lol.

I live alone too so there was no way of me knowing if I snored or had sleep apnea.

Try using the app Snore Lab. It records snoring and displays the levels on a bar graph as well.

A month post op and a 30 pound (10 %) weight loss the sleep apnea and soring is gone.

That alone made the surgery worth it for me.

The snoring that the app is now recording is from my dog. LOL

What did your Dr tell you the risks were if you didn't use the machine? Thank you

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
