Just.TinaVSG 1 Posted June 29, 2016 So I had my first appointment with my surgeon June 22nd and found out my insurance requires 6 months of continuous effort. But what's frustrating is the 10 weeks of medical weight loss I did a few months ago doesn't count because there was a break in between. The requirments are that it has to be in person, and monitored. Everything I've done on my own doesn't count. It's frustrating, but it is what it is! Anyway, I'm trying to decide which program to do. Weight watchers possibly? But what are other options? If anyone has gone through this, what did you do? Is there anyway around it?

KristenLe 5,979 Posted June 29, 2016 You should look into doing a program with the Nutritionist from your Bariatric practice. That way you can learn how to eat post-op and can get some benefit from the wait. I also had therapy to deal with emotional eating issues or cravings while I waited. You need to find out if you need to lose weight during this time. Not all plans require weight loss.

I check in with my Doctor once a month, my doc is awesome I enjoyed every visit. And the 6 months really dose fly by. I was approved last Thursday. Spoke with my preop Cordinator today and I'm looking at having surgery towards the end of the month![emoji2]good luck to you!
Just.TinaVSG 1 Posted June 29, 2016 Thanks everyone! I do think the time will fly! Christmas will be here before I know it, and then 6 months will be over! My surgery center does have meetings, but it's kinda far, and doesn't fit in well with my schedule. I may still do it, but looking at all my options. They did say WW works, but not sure if that's what I want to do.
nina1562 35 Posted June 29, 2016 I my self had to do a 6 month supervised diet so my primary physician referral me to a nutritionist which I would see once a month...my insurance would not accept the nutritionist from my bariatric doctor...was sleeved June 23rd and feeling great (thank god ) hoping to continue doing well through my journey Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G890A using the BariatricPal App
shantell500 46 Posted June 29, 2016 My insurance required 6 months continuous effort as well but it had to be with a nutritionist. The 8 months I was with Weight watchers did not count. So I suggest you use the nutritionist that's affiliated with ur surgeons office. I had to see a psychologist a few times as well to determine that I was mentally ready for wls.
