Butter chicken after gastric sleeve

Recommended Posts

Hello there.

I'm starting my fourth week after the surgery. So far, I've been able to stick to my diet and I've been okay.

Before the procedure, I never really... "liked" butter chicken, but for a strange reason, I've been craving it for the last couple of days.

I'm still on my puree food, so I won't be having any butter chicken any time soon. I was just curious... I wanted to know if anyone had it and how it felt? How long after the surgery?

Thanks a lot!

I saved butter chicken for maintenance, just because it is so incredibly high calorie. It really isn't a good choice as a weight loss food, even in small quantities. It never gave me any problems once I did try it -- but virtually nothing else does, either, so I'm probably not the best gauge to use!

It's weird the stuff you'll crave after surgery. I never really cared for onions and now I love them in everything. I'm only a few weeks out and I haven't found anything I can't tolerate. I eat very slowly and I stop at the slight hint of feeling full.

if you made it yourself and subbed 1/2 and half or whole milk for heavy cream you can cut the calories a lot.

Guess I have to ask. What is butter chicken?

It's an Indian recipe.

Here, this is the definition that I found on Wikipedia:

Butter chicken or murgh makhani (Hindi: मुर्ग़ मक्खनी) (pronounced [mʊrg məkʰaːniː]) is an Indian dish[4] of chicken in a mildly spiced curry sauce. It is served in India and abroad. The dish has its roots in Punjabi cuisine and was developed by the Moti Mahal restaurant in Delhi, India.[5]

I don't know what butter chicken is but after you are healed you can technically eat ANYTHING. Some things are just worse choices than others

In response to the person mentioning it's not a good weight loss food, I think one thing that gets lost on people like us really trying to diet is that anything in moderation is acceptable. It's knowing when you're having too much. Considering it's chicken, you can still count it as high Protein so you know, trading off less nutritional benefit for some in another area. As long as you're not overindulging and having things every day, you'll do A-OK. We shouldn't convince ourselves that there are things we just can't have because we're trying to lose weight. I think that's a bad relationship to have with food personally. I think it's far more mature to know your restrictions with certain less-than-ideal foods and learn how to eat them within your guidelines than it is to say no way Jose flat out.

But that's me, I've always held a "nothing is not allowed" perspective and I know I abused it sometimes, but I think this is a great time to work on it and be responsible with that motto.

There are a few recipes online for low carb butter chicken, so you could make your own. They also look pretty puréeable to me.

Thanks for the info. Don't think that is my cup of tea and probably why I never heard of it.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
