Chicken Lady 102 Posted June 27, 2016 I have a very supportive friend who has asked me what she can do to help me after surgery. (Scheduled July 27) I have never had surgery before so I don't know what I might need or even how my body will feel after surgery. Does anyone have any suggestions on things I might need help with? OKCPirate 5,323 Posted June 27, 2016 I was a single lone ranger in this, so I guess #1, it depends on your work/family/house (lawn work is out for a nearly a month, and no lifting anything over 20 pounds). I don't know your overall health or weight, but I was in good enough shape going in I didn't need any help moving around, but you could be different. On the plus side...YOU DON'T NEED MEALS But your family might, and cooking might not what you are interested in doing when you are on liquids. Some ideas, not instruction since I don't know your exact circumstances. A little more detail about your concerns will help.

Bufflehead 6,358 Posted June 27, 2016 The only thing I needed help with was changing the kitty litter (due to weight limits on lifting). If you are ordinarily hauling around big sacks of chicken feed, or cleaning out the chicken coop, you might need someone to do that for you.
rubia72 200 Posted June 27, 2016 My husband helped me in and out of bed, he helped me by making my Soups, he took care of our kids and he helped me with my shoes too:)
OutsideMatchInside 10,166 Posted June 27, 2016 Ask her to walk with you so you don't get bored. That is all I have. I was relatively healthy and active. I lived alone and I didn't need help. Oh my friend was here the say after surgery and the one thing she did for me that I would not have had the energy for the day I got home (about 26 hours after surgery) was pick up my prescriptions. One there was an issue with because the Dr wasn't in the DEA database and she had to go back up there. I would have never been able to fight with them for that medicine. I didn't need it anyway but still. That was a huge help to me.
suzzzzz 1,005 Posted June 27, 2016 I live by myself and did t need any help but had plenty of offers. You will need to alternate between rest and walking so let your kids know.
