Anyone in the Denver CO area?

Recommended Posts

I am very new to all this. I am having my 1st Dr appt with my GP to discuss the possibility of getting a Lap-Band. I am just wondering if anyone has had it done in my area and if anyone has any input that can help me along in this process.

Thanks- Nichole

Nicole,

I live in Greeley and has lap band surgery 3 1/2 weeks ago. I'm sure there are many good bariatric surgeons in Denver, but Dr. Johnell in Greeley and his staff are wonderful. I encourage you to go forward with it. Between the pre-weight they make you lose and post-surgery, I have lost 40 pounds.

Hi Nichole.. There is a great Dr in the Denver area. His name is Dr Kirshenbaum.. My surgery is scheduled for October 16th. There is a thread started full of Dr. Kirshenbaum's patients and there are 3 or 4 gals that live in the Denver area that have had their bands done by Dr K..

He charges $9950 and that includes everything plus 3 months follow up care and fills.. After that fills are $15.. Dr K and his staff are 1st class in my book... There is a link to his web site at the bottom of my signature for you to check it out...

Come on over to Dr K's thread and join all of us there... You can find it by going to the home page and under "Doctors and Hospitals" open that up and look for the thread that says "Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum" there are over 100 pages you can look through or start on the last page and join in the chat...

Good Luck to you..

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
