It will probably come down to your surgeon's wishes.

The surgeons that I have worked with---way back in the day---would make you remove them.

You'll find out tomorrow.

Wishing you the best and most joyful journey.

Meet you on the, "Losers' Bench", my friend.

You'll like it there.. :)

@@randij69 - as you probably should be tonight. Tomorrow will be a game changer. On the plus side, it is damn nice on the other side.

If you are still up read through this...http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/195065-you-know-you-lost-weight-when/

Give you some perspective as to why you are doing it. Wait until you can clip your toenails with out planning...it's really dang cool.

I was instructed to leave all jewelry (and contact lenses) at home. Wedding rings were the only jewelry allowed and I'm not married. I feel more nakie without my jewelry than without my undies.

You have to remove everything or - like i did - replace with glass or plastic.

Good luck!

When electrocautery is used to stop bleeding in a surgery, they place a gronding pad underneath/on you to avoid the electricity flowing through a path that might burn you. Wearing any metal on your body will only increase the chance of the metal heating up and you receiving a burn. Burned nipples? Probably not fun. Plus the jewelry can harbor bacteria that may spread on your skin and get in your incisions. The surgical team has no interest or time to have to clean your piercings pre-op when they prep your skin prior to the surgeon making incisions.

Yes u have to remove them but as soon as survey is over you can put them back in. I had a few body piercings and I had to remove all of them and if you don't then that can cause problems in surgery. Something about the electric with the piercing metal and the instruments they use. If you think they may close up then go to a piercing shop & see of they have a plastic piece to use while ur in surgery. HOPE this helps. ????

In previous surgeries I could replace them with a plastic retainer I'm asking my Dr tomorrow if that would be possible. I too have some that i don't want to have to get redone.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
