d0minicanmama1 2 Posted June 27, 2016 Hi everyone ! Okay so my surgeon told me to drink 2 shakes a day and then eat a Protein supper. I was only able to get enough shakes for one a day and I been eating twice a day. I haven't gained weight but I'm scared I didn't shrink my liver enough.. has this happened to anyone? Being denied surgery because not following the 2 week liquid diet. Btw my surgery is this Thursday the 30th! OutsideMatchInside 10,166 Posted June 27, 2016 Are you going to be able to get enough shakes for post op? Not having Protein post op isn't really an option. You should tell your doctor and be honest about what you have been eating and see what they say.

KayleeZoe 12 Posted June 27, 2016 Mine didn't even ask me if I was successful with the liver shrinking diet. My team made sure that I had shakes for most of the week before hand. Others that had been through the process had donated the shakes needed and they distributed them. Do you think your team might be able to help?

I never even thought to ask them :/ plus it's too late now my surgery is in 4 days. Hope they don't ask me about it either. My surgeon just said to drink shakes he never mentioned anything about liver shrinking I didn't know anything about it till I did research. Karen Kenney 61 Posted June 27, 2016 @@d0minicanmama1 It's not too late, you have 4 days, Trader Jo's has inexpensive high Protein shakes called Pure Protein, they have no sugar and 35 grms of protein, try drinking those for the remaining 4 days and eating lean protein and a little veggi's, do what you can. If the surgeon gets in there and see's your liver is fatty they will cancel the surgery and you will have to start over Good luck!
PrinceVanHalen 97 Posted June 27, 2016 I'll be honest, I didn't follow the pre op diet at all. I had your same fears. They didn't weigh me before surgery either. After surgery, my surgeon said my liver looked great and the surgery was very easy. Little does he know, I didn't follow it at all. I don't know if I just got lucky or what. Hauergirl 15 Posted June 27, 2016 Our surgeon puts patients on a 1-2 week Optifast liquid diet before surgery. On my last appt on June 15, I went to book my surgery date. Receptionist asked how eager I was for surgery and said I could have operation on June 20. I asked "what about the 2 weeks of Optifast dr just prescribed?" She said it wasn't that big a deal, that they'd rather fill the operating room up... I chose June 29th because I wanted my body to be in optimal shape when they operate. So I don't think you need to stress too much about what you have done while preop, you still have a few days to get that liver downsized. Good luck to you! Elena Secara 2 Posted June 27, 2016 I had the confirmation for surgery on June 1st,surgery date is July 4th,they required only one day of liquid diet...pre-op day...it's this normal?I will have Rny ... Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
middlebeaver 10 Posted June 27, 2016 Hi Elena, I know for my gastric sleeve I never did a liquid diet. The only requirement was to be NPO midnight before surgery. I didn't have any problems. However, I did not lose enough with the sleeve and have RNy schedule for 07/25 Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App I think it all depends on the doctor and the weight of the person. I started this weight 330 and lost around 60 pounds so was shocked when he had me do a 2 week liquid diet.
