Exercise?! When can we..

Recommended Posts

Ask your doctor, usually they say 4 weeks post-op but everyone is different. Ask your doctor.

I was told at 4 weeks I could do light exercise and then ramp it up as my body sees fit. I just want these darn incisions to heal so I can hope back into the pool! :)

I am only 5 days post op..sooooooo a ways to go.

I was told to walk as much as I could as soon as I could. I wasn't allowed to run or swim until 4 weeks post op. I walked a 5k at 3.5 weeks, but I had been walking a lot before the surgery.

Ask your dr . I walked for the first month then was able to do any cardio. I had to wait 2 months to start lifting weights

I started back my daily 3 mile walk on day 6 post op. But I was always doing this prior to surgery. Had no problems with this at all and my recovery was simple for me. Completed a 5k fast walk as a fundraiser 5 weeks post op. Started back swimming at 4 wks post op. I was always active prior to surgery. I am part of a choir and went back to rehearsals within 1 wk of surgery. The singing I had been doing had been really beneficial to engaging my tummy muscles early on to get back where they should be. I sing everyday so my muscle tone is there I was just morbidly obese on top of it! My breathing has improved hugely since my surgery.

I went to the gym after two weeks since i wasn't working and getting bored of laying around the house. After mentioning it to my doctor, he suggested I only go for walks until at least four weeks. It has been four weeks now so I will start getting back to that slowly..

English is my 6th language so forgive me if my sentences don't make any sense at times!

I'm only walking but my doctor said weeks. I agree

It give the body time to heal inside right. I don't want to return to surgery for any reason.

Just had my 2 week post op and was cleared for the gym.

Just nothing extreme (lifting restrictions and such).

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
