How soon after the 12 week options programs will I receive my surgery date? I have completed all labs, attended my mandated support group and had kept all appointments scheduled thus far. I guess I'm getting anxiously excited as I enter my half way mark to completing my 12 week classes.

I received a phone call 1 week later after ending the 12 week session. A week later meet with the surgeon and set the date. But also you have to consider the suegery schedule. I meet with the surgeon on may 3 and the surgery was the 23rd and that was because I missed the call by 2 hours.

My option class ended 6/2. Currently I am still Vitamin D deficient. I was prescribed a strong dose and currently waiting 6 weeks to re-submit blood work. I'm pretty sure I will get my surgery date then. I am really struggling not to gain weight. I can already here folks say easy pesie just to this and that. Well I didn't get to weighting 384 lbs because I was a great dieter. Ugh!

Last night I completed my 12th bariatrics options class. Now the wait begins for Kaiser to call me with the bariatric physician, mental health, surgeon appointments.

Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to introduce myself as another Kaiser Fontana person. I am starting my options class 8/17. I'm really excited.

After reading your posts, I realize I should start now supplementing my Vitamin D. It has been low since I started with Kaiser four years ago.

Do they require you to lose weight during the options class? If so, how much?

Do they give you access to buying the New Directions products to help in the weight loss? The shakes are fantastic. They taste pretty OK and have 27g of Protein. I used them when I went through their Healthy Balance weight loss program a year ago. I lost something over 20lbs, but put it all back on when I was prescribed a certain psych med.

Hi! They encourage you to practice what they teach you throughout the classes. Things like label reading, yes taking Vitamins now, breaking bad habits, choosing the right foods, slowing incorporating exercise. They also encourage to eat slowly, drink lots of Water (staying hydrated) basically if you practice what they teach and put effort you will loose weight. They weigh you at every class. They didnt ever say you have loose or no surgery. But they classes are clear that if you want the change you have to make it work for you. I gave up all sugary drinks. I drink Water and crystal light and that alone I was dropping 1lbs a week. They also encourage to increase your Protein intake. As it is beneficial post op and ever after.

Oh you can buy their shakes, but not mandatory. Everything is basically how your changing your food choices at home. They do encourage premier Protein (sam club, Walmart, winco, costco, winco) but thats really after surgery, cause you should be getting protien from regular foods.

That's good to know about the weight loss. I don't mind working on lifestyle changes, but I was nervous if they had one of those lose ten percent of your body weight requirements. I have never been able to do that.

Alot of health plans require that. I know before surgery they are gonna have us on a liquid diet only to shrink our livers to help surgery a lil easier

I was wondering about the liquid diet. Good idea not to have a giant liver I guess. Lol

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
