losing weight without any fills

Recommended Posts

Just wondering. How many bandsters are losing a lot of weight without having a fill at all. I know there are some and I think that is wonderful.Do you feel restricted already, what size band do you have. I would also like to know about VG bandsters who lost without fills. I have a VG band and no fills yet, but need a lot of will power to stick to the diet and losing weight is very slow. Thanks.

I am only two months out, I have not had any fills and do not plan to at this time. I would lke to do as much on my own as I can. I can eat about 1.5 to 2 cups of food which is certainly quite a bit, but MUCH less that I used to be able to. I have some restriction from my band which is a small AP. I am only losing at about 1-2lbs per week, but that's what we are supposed to lose. I'm frustrated, sure. But I would like to save this tool in reserve and get as far as I can on my own first. Weird, I know. But that's me.

I lost most of my weight without a fill. My first fill was on July 23rd, 2007. I think I have lost around 8 pounds since then. I have the VG band also. I have to say though that I starting walking in the hospital and am now riding my bike 70-100 miles a week. So, the exercise had a lot to do with my rapid loss. Certainly wasn't will power, I have none of that.

Wow that's wonderful. So there is hope for me after all. Thank you so much for your update. Lonestar.

I'm so glad I read this. I haven't had the surgery yet and have been reading alot of posts about the trials and tribulations of fill...unfill...refill. I was getting concerned since I'll be a self-pay and it looks like you have to pay for each of these procedures! It's good to know not everyone has these issues.

Hi all!

It's been 2 months and a week since I got banded. I have no fill and have lost about 40 pounds.

I was really sick for the first month and a half after surgery though and had to stay on liquids and mushies the whole time. That helped significantly.

This last month i have been losing about 1-2 pounds a week which seems good to me. I'm not even exercising yet so feel i should do that before I get a fill.

Part of me would like to continue to lose at the rate I did initially but.. I know that 1-2 pounds a week is average.

If I wanted to lose more I could be eating healthier (i eat ok) and exercising every day.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
