lmwilla 21 Posted June 26, 2016 I was sleeved on 6/20 and up until today I have been feeling pretty good. I made it through the gas pains, spasms, and incision pain. Just when I think it's finally looking up Protein shakes make me feel sick. I haven't been nauseous at all until today when it happened both times I drank my shake. I'm just feeling kind of blah I know it will get better and I don't regret the sleeve, I just don't know how the heck to get all my Protein in now. Any suggestions? Caribear 184 Posted June 26, 2016 Hang in there, it will get better. Can you thin down your shakes a little bit so they are not so thick? That might help.
Dashofpixiedust8 1,469 Posted June 26, 2016 Were you using milky or juicy Protein Shakes? Not everyone can tolerate milk after surgery. Maybe try Isopure or a Protein Drink like that which doesn't use dairy.
lmwilla 21 Posted June 26, 2016 I was trying Premier Protein. Maybe I should switch to a non dairy product. I do have some Isopure so I will try that more often. Thank you! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
excelsior1 4 Posted June 27, 2016 Your doctor will prescribe an antiemetic (med for nausea) and you should take it. It has few side effects and works great to get you through.
adrinanna 46 Posted June 27, 2016 I had that issue with dairy based Protein Shake along with a few other nasty systems... I was using lactate for a while. ... It can help you get through those dairy based shakes
Faitheyfoo 6 Posted June 28, 2016 That same thing happened to me with Protein shakes. My doctor told me to try carnation instant Breakfast the sugar free or lite one with skim milk and that did the trick. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App I had the same thing happen at same point! My surgery was 6/21. I moved to Isopure unflavored in broth or plain Water. Today was first day I was able to do a smoothie again.
ACJordan 38 Posted July 5, 2016 Try Syntrax nectar in Fuzzy Navel or Roadside Lemonade. Neither are overly sweet and like you, I am tired of the chocolaty, milk based. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Same thing happened to me - I find most shakes too cloying now. Try adding GENEPRO to your coffee or tea. It's whey based and while it doesn't have a strong flavor, it's vaguely reminiscent of powered milk for me and you cannot taste it in white coffee or tea. chycky 671 Posted July 6, 2016 Try broth w/protein or Protein Water and then try going back, or to a new flavor. it took me over a week to start shakes again. Good luck!
