I was sleeved on 6/20 and up until today I have been feeling pretty good. I made it through the gas pains, spasms, and incision pain. Just when I think it's finally looking up Protein shakes make me feel sick. I haven't been nauseous at all until today when it happened both times I drank my shake.

I'm just feeling kind of blah I know it will get better and I don't regret the sleeve, I just don't know how the heck to get all my Protein in now.

Any suggestions?

Hang in there, it will get better. Can you thin down your shakes a little bit so they are not so thick? That might help.

Were you using milky or juicy Protein Shakes? Not everyone can tolerate milk after surgery. Maybe try Isopure or a Protein Drink like that which doesn't use dairy.

I was trying Premier Protein. Maybe I should switch to a non dairy product. I do have some Isopure so I will try that more often.

Thank you!

Your doctor will prescribe an antiemetic (med for nausea) and you should take it. It has few side effects and works great to get you through.

I had that issue with dairy based Protein Shake along with a few other nasty systems... I was using lactate for a while. ... It can help you get through those dairy based shakes

I had the same thing happen at same point! My surgery was 6/21. I moved to Isopure unflavored in broth or plain Water. Today was first day I was able to do a smoothie again.

Same thing happened to me - I find most shakes too cloying now. Try adding GENEPRO to your coffee or tea. It's whey based and while it doesn't have a strong flavor, it's vaguely reminiscent of powered milk for me and you cannot taste it in white coffee or tea.

Try broth w/protein or Protein Water and then try going back, or to a new flavor. it took me over a week to start shakes again.

Good luck!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
