Band booked for the 4th July!

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I've struggled with my weight most of my life so finally decided i needed to make a big change. I'm booked in for my pre-op appointment this Wednesday and have the surgery in 8 days time, on Monday 4th July. Its self funded.

I downloaded this app when i made the choice to go with surgery and it seem there's some mixed feelings and success rates. It's all left me feeling a bit anxious and nervous!

I've started my pre-op diet (i actually started it early just to try and get used to it) and its been going ok...a few little slips ups but nothing too major.

I'd really appreciate if anyone could share their experience, what i should expect and any little tips you might have. I'm determined to make this a success so your input will help me start this journey positively.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help settle some nerves!!

Stuart

Hi Stuart

I had my band on 2nd June. As long as you stick to the eating plan your team give you, then things should move forward.

The only problems I have found are extreme tiredness and a few loose stools (nice!!).

The first few days were taken with siping as much as i could. I also had a lot of wind as they put a lot of gas into your stomach in the operation, but that settles down.

Overall I have absolutely NO regrets, just take things slowly and listen to your body.

A couple of tips I would recommend is:

1) always carry a little sachet of hot chocolate / Soup / horlicks. Just in case your plans during the day change. If you need something then you have it with you.

2) I have a lunch box ready for the next stages. I brought two side plates and a tablespoon. I intend to carry it with me everywhere, so I can eat he correct portion sizes.

Good luck, it is worth all the effort.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
