sillykitty 10,780 Posted May 7, 2018 TSA making you take out food is sometimes a thing now I guess. I haven’t experienced it yet, and I fly nearly weekly, but maybe because I’m always Pre Check? https://thepointsguy.com/news/tsa-snacks-out-of-bags/ https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/tripping/wp/2018/03/29/your-sugar-bomb-may-get-extra-scrutiny-at-the-airport-tsa-agents-ask-some-travelers-to-remove-snacks-from-carry-ons/ Procedures and metal detector sensitivity definitely do vary airport by airport
KimDawn 45 Posted May 7, 2018 I flew 3 weeks ago and left my food in my purse, both ways, and they didn't ask me to remove it.
sideeye 1,440 Posted May 9, 2018 Asked about food again on the return flight. Do I just look like I'm trafficking in explosive botanicals or something? Also, new horrible TSA scanner revelation: apparently Shapewear can ALSO set off the sensor. Not even wires or any sort of corseting, just a lightweight spanx-type-thing. The (very nice) TSA lady who patted me down in ways you really shouldn't have to cope with in public told me that compression garments can read as some sort of density aberration and the software flags it. The hell?! So now in the past few months I've managed to get pulled by the TSA for: the swelling/density of my recent-surgery stomach; lentils and string cheese; Spanx. I look forward to them rediscovering the metal pins in my ankle next trip.
