I use Kind brand B12 which is a spray but not sublingual. I have to be pretty dedicated to get my vit D up. I too take a mega dose, started at once a week and then taper to once a month plus I take daily calcium citrate with D. I also eat a lot of dairy. I find bariatric Vitamins vary significantly in price and quality so I take a prenatal multi Vitamin along with fish oil. Now my dr is adding a probiotic to the mix but it's not required, he just recommended it so I'm just going to try it.

Thank you for responding. I am really hoping that I qualify for the B12 injections. I am horrible at remembering to take them. I also hope that I get to see a bariatric doctor soon. I don't believe I am depressed, I think this is side effects of having low Vitamin levels in my body.

Hi, I'm 19 months out VSG and I still have 11 pounds to go :)

When I had my surgery the bariatric dr said 2 Flinstons with Iron chewable then a Calcium chewable. I also take 10,000 of Biotin for my hair and nails. Started that when I was on my 6 month before surgery weigh ins with my PCP dr.

Me too. I like the idea of 1+ years out.

I know pre-ops have a lot of questions, but, where is our time to question each other? :(

Great topic, I enjoyed reading through it. I'm one of those that has gone away because I really stopped getting a benefit from the forum. I look forward to the new veteran's forum. I'm finding all sorts of new challenges as I finish my 2nd year and would certainly benefit from the expertise of those that have gone before me. Like most everyone here, I want sustained success after my surgery. And of course, it's great to read posts from those of you that have been helping me from the beginning.

Hey everyone. I am 3 years post op VSG. My hw was 236 sw 226 lw 124 now I'm 142. I'm ok with my weight and eat healthy religiously but have some medications that are slowing me down. I came here today because I had my surgery done in Mexico in 2013 and never had my Vitamins checked until a few weeks ago. My vit D is 5.9, my B12 is 291, and magnesium is 1.8. these are all pretty low. I am currently taking 50000 units Vitamin D2 1x weekly and a Multivitamin. My biggest thing is the b12. I have noticed over the last year I am having difficulty getting it in. I had to stop taking the sublingual due to dental issues. I'm unsure if or how much intrinsic factor my body has and my family doctor doesn't see a huge problem with my numbers. She has me on depression meds (part of the rebound weight cause) when maybe I just need more Vitamins? I'm pretty unsure at this point. I have asked for a referral to a bariatric doctor and waiting for insurance to decide. Until then, anyone care to share anything on this?

The longer I stay on this site the more I convinced I am that the norm is for a lower weight at year 2 with a regain in during year 2-3 to a stable weight. So many people are posting about 5-20 pound gains in that time. Makes the slooth in me wonder. *dear Internet, I'm not saying this is true for everyone*

I stay really active and any dip in that activity brings weight gain. It's a trade off 6 days a week in the gym or weight gain. I can not control with diet alone. For me that's okay. I love the workout. I've just had several surgeries since maintenance and I've experienced what sedentary does to my body.

Anyway, I take probiotic, fish oil, Multivitamin (gummy), b12 (gummy), Vit D with Calcium, and Vit C.

Hope you find what works for your body.

Update... I had my meds changed, already down to 136 in less than 2 weeks. I am on a strict Vitamin regimen ordered by a new nutritionist. 80 grams Protein a day, 1500mg Calcium with Vitamin D divided into 3 doses throughout the day, 2flinstone complete with Iron (1 in am, 1 in pm), 500mcg sublingual B12 daily...I forget what else but hopefully I can get my levels up soon.

I'm glad to find this thread bc I just recently uninstalled the app from my phone and was going to stop using it. All I saw was new ppl with new sleeve questions when I'm almost have 2 yr post op and have questions and need motivation. I need to maintain my weight. I've gain and am terrified. I stopped logging my meals bc w far I was surpassing it and just plain shame. I got this once in a lifetime tool and I feel like I used and abused it. I need help to get back on track.

Please respond to this thread ONLY if you are a year or more post op. Thank you for your consideration.

Many of us have expressed a desire to have a "safe place" for vets to discuss our progress, our maintenance plans, or just grumble in general. This forum is supposed to be that place, but it's quite often used as an "Ask A Vet" opportunity which is awesome, but sort of defeats the purpose.

@@Alex Brecher and I have been tossing around ideas on how to better suit the needs of us oldies but goodies. :D

We can restrict the forum by post number.

We can restrict it by time registered on this site.

We can restrict it by time post op.

It's MY opinion that post number isn't working. Time post op makes most sense, but people can easily lie. I truly think we can sniff those people out, so this is MY first choice. The third option also makes sense if we say they have to be here 18 months of so. That would give them 6 months of pre-op diet time and then a year post op. Of course, Alex can make exceptions on a case by case basis.

Please chime in with your opinions!!

If you don't like the idea of a Vet's Only Forum, that's OK, too. You don't have to utilize it, but you are more than welcome to. :D

I've only been on this site for a bit because I didn't know it existed!! However, I am 2 1/2 years post RNY!

I would love to have a vets forum. I joined in May 2015 and haven't been on for ages as there wasn't anything I felt was relevant to me. I have concerns about different things now that I am 18 months post op

This is not an easy stroll. I think it takes a tremendous amount of dedication and mindfulness almost daily( no one is perfect)

My take is to try to have the good, healthy days continue in a row .... yes. They get disrupted by life, but in general... I start to try to string together the compliant days.

( banded12/06). The longer I do this. The more it becomes habit

I fight some demons at the grocery store. If it is not here. I don't eat it!!!

It is still a struggle. Mostly in the evenings.

Good luck to all of us trying to maintain a healthy weight. It is not easy most days!!

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
