Inflammation and swelling

Recommended Posts

Ok today makes day 7 post-op and I am still retaining a lot of Water in my ankles and lower legs and my stomach is still swollen. Question is this normal should I be losing any thing yet I weigh more now than before surgery I know it's Water but still I am ready to see the scale move down after what I have been through.

Are you drinking enough fluids? If it's warm where you live - you'll need even more fluids. Be careful with sodium. Walk and move around. If you're not peeing alot - I'd check in with your surgeon.

Walking and more fluids is the answer to your issues. Getting 64oz or more should be your #1 priority at this point. Start sipping the moment you wake up. Always have a glass or bottle next to you. Set a timer to remind you to sip. Give yourself mini goals....16oz before work, 16 more by lunch, another 16 before you go home, don't go to bed before that last 16oz is gone. Try mixing up temperatures and flavors to find what goes down the best.

@@tanyarahmes - I prefer my Water at room temp, so I had 64oz bottle and used shot glasses to help me to sip constantly because I was so used to chugging I wasn't drinking enough because I was concerned I would do it during the healing phase.

I was surprised at how much weight I gained in the hospital, until I realized how much IV Fluid they put in my and how little was going out. About day 10, everything finally started coming out and rapid weight loss began (with the occasional stall).

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
