Another hair loss question, with a twist!

Recommended Posts

I took all my Vitamins, took Biotin and keratin and fish oil and got all my Protein in and lost hair. And lost it with other surgery too. I think there are multiple things happening--look up telogen effluvium that is the cause of a lot of post op Hair loss and can happen despite adequate nutrition.

I was eating high Protein for months before surgery and started hitting my protein goal (75+ grams) within 24 hours of surgery. I was also taking Biotin well before and after surgery. I still had massive Hair loss.< /p>

I wish I had listened to my surgeon and not wasted my money on biotin. He told me it wouldn't help! I did notice it helped me grow new hair quickly . . . on my face and from the waist down. Not what I was looking for tbh.

I think that all the supplements and teas and potions in the world don't do anything but make people feel good about being proactive. Hair loss is, IMO, a crap shoot after surgery.

Still, with all the hair I lost (and I had experienced a lot of permanent hair loss before surgery because I am just lucky that way) I still never had anyone say anything to me about my looks after surgery beyond how terrific I looked. You lose 100+ lbs and people aren't going to notice a little hair thinning. Besides, hair loss may not be preventable but it is disguisable. Good luck everyone!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
