Buffalo Chili & a Successful Vacation Day

Recommended Posts

I'm almost 7 weeks post op and am happy to say that vacation is going well! I was worried that it would be difficult to manage fluids, Proteins, and Vitamins, but no problems yet! I successfully navigated a large family reunion and a dinner out, while still keeping to plan. I did eat one new thing today - chili made with ground buffalo meat. It was tasty but very spicy! It's the spiciest thing I've eaten since surgery, and I'm happy to say my body still tolerates spicy food.

Anyway, here are a few things I did that helped me stick to plan:

1. Packing for vacation included packing food, drinks, and Vitamins. I brought a small cooler with foods I can eat, just in case. I also brought several bottles of Water and some crystal light.

2. I write down everything I eat. That's hard to do on vacation days, or really on any busy days. I have started using my iPhone to help with this process. For example, I tell Siri to set a reminder that I ate a deviled egg. Or drank 8oz of Water. Later, back at the hotel, I was able to look through my reminders and make sure I had written down everything in my food log.

3. I carried a small container of my necessary vitamins in my purse. They were easily accessible, so I didn't forget any despite the full chaotic day.

4. I started the day with a Premier Protein drink (30g protein), just in case I forgot to eat enough Protein throughout the day. How weird it is that I now sometimes forget to eat!

That's all. Mostly feeling happy that my sleeve and I can manage vacations just fine.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
