Well it's getting close! My surgery is bright and early Monday, I've been on the clear liquid diet all week but today and tomorrow I can't have any Protein. So I'm really struggling today. I've had a cup of broth and a few jellos and Popsicles. I feel so weak and hungry :( My emotions have been all over the place all week, wondering rather I'm really doing the right thing or not. I'm only 25. Who does something like this at 25?! I'm cutting out over half of my stomach, that's absurd! Will I ever get to enjoy food again? Am I really gonna live the rest of my life with no bread, Pasta, or rice?! Do I really want to have to take medicine forever? Will I always have to worry about throwing up if I eat the wrong thing? Am I going to forever miss food? These are just a couple of the many many things running through my head and I can't turn it off. I hope this is normal because it's making me a nervous wreck and very moody. I either can't stop crying or I want to snap at anyone who looks in my direction.

I know your feeling this way is very natural. I am twice your age and I know that my whole life I have had a Love Hate relationship with food. And if I heard one more person say to me that "nothing taste as good as thin feels," I gonna scream! Because I've been both, and when I look at my health now, and what my weight has done to me, I just know it's not going to get better only worse. Quality of Life is going to be better, for me today is looking way better. I don't see anyone saying you can't ever have something as long as you recognize what you do have is in controlled amount. Moderation, and enjoy the new lease on Life we have ahead. Everyone I know says they wish they did it sooner. My surgery is this Thursday. 6/30

If it makes you feel any better, I did it and I'm 19. I know this will be good for me in the long run towards better health. Also you don't have to completely cut out those things, but you do have to focus on Protein as much as possible. You'll be able to enjoy foo, just in restricted and more reasonable proportions...in my opinion, having to cherish what little portions we have will allow us to enjoy food even more.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
