I just got my surgery date yesterday! August 17th! Woohoo!!! What are some things you wish you bought before your surgery that you didn't have and what are some things you did buy that you couldn't have done without?

I'm still pre op and I am struggling to lose the weight to get a surgery date just wanted to say CONGRATS to you. However I have heard others who are post op say that be sure to bring a long extension cord so that you can plug in all of your electronic devices. Also I have heard that a belly binder will help get through the first few days. Just my 2 cents. Can't wait to hear from you when you are on the other side!:)

Thank you! I feel like I've been waiting for this day forever! I have an extension cord on my list of things to bring but haven't heard of bringing a belly binder. I'll look into that! Thank you! Good luck getting to where you need to be! I hope you get your date soon!

It is always good to take a good before photograph of yourself so you can compare it with your after photo. Don't rely on the one in your surgeons office. Make one for yourself. Many times we really don't look at ourselves before surgery. So after surgery we don't see the changes.

Hi good luck on your surgery, I go Tuesday for Murr to do mine, the binder mentioned is put on you by the staff after surgery so no need to get one.

I'm 3 days post op. I I brought way too much! I used a hospital gown as a robe. My hospital had the slipper socks so didn't need slippers.

GAS-X.... Lifesaver for me.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
