Almost a week Post Op: not lost a single pound?

Recommended Posts

How is it possible to be eating nothing and drinking a couple Protein shakes for so long and not lose a single pound??? LOL... Ok; so I'm 5 days PO almost a week and my daily intake consists of 2 Protein Shakes and around 50 oz of Water. That's all I can seem to take in so far. I have been walking also.

I do think I'm bloated and have bad gas pain right now. But I'm just curious how can the body go so long and not budge? From the start of my two week liquid diet up till surgery I lost about 8 or 9 lbs. day of surgery I weighed 275. I weigh 274.6 today..

I now it hasn't been long I'm just freaked out that I haven't even lost a pound in almost a week of basically nothing . How long till the scale moves?

Most people don't lose a lot the first week. Your body has suffered a trauma.

Also 2 Protein shakes and 50 ounces of Water is basically starvation for your body. Don't expect to lose until you can get more calories in.

You are still bloated up from all the fluids you were pumped full of in the hospital, plus your body is recovering from trauma. Weight loss isn't a race -- stay off the scale for a while if it is going to stress you out. Stalls happen frequently even when you are following your program perfectly. Stress isn't good for weight loss, so let go of the idea that weight loss will happen with mathematical certainty and that you should be regularly stepping on the scale and seeing the number plunge down. You will lose the weight if you follow a good program, but it won't be predictable or smooth!

I lost 22 pounds pre-op and gained back 12 pounds in the hospital. It took me a week and a half to lose those twelve pounds to get back to where I started, then at three weeks, I hit that darn stall. I really did not lose any noticeble weight until week five.

I wouldn't stress either because you have no idea how much weight you gained in the hospital with the IV.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
