collegeguy 0 Posted June 25, 2016 Hope this is the right place to ask questions in general. I've been posting on some other weight loss surgical places for discussions trying to get some real life answers and opinions. I am pre-med and doing some research on the different weight loss surgeries available. I see a lot of people here in the states traveling to Mexico. Nothing wrong with that from 90 percent of the people discussing it all but just would like to understand how it works. I have most of my research done with working with professionals here affiliated with the states but now am more curious on the differences of US versus foreign countries. # 1 the doctors and nurses? are they certified in the US or just in Mexico? # 2 the clinics. Are they clinics or accredited hospitals? I saw one place that was in a strip mall? That wouldn't seem safe to me but maybe others have a differing opinion and experience. # 3 do the people who go to a foreign country, mainly Mexico, have to travel back for their checkups or are they on their own when they come back to the US or their own homes? # 4 confusing and conflicting information on the process and how the healthcare professionals are found and utilized. In the US people find a doctor and meet with them and schedule it all including the aftercare. Am I understanding that for a foreign doctor and surgery process that the doctor is an employee of sorts of an outside company that does all of the arrangements or am I interpreting that wrong? Are the outside companies based and owned in Mexico and foreign countries or are they US owned companies or maybe a mix of both? Are the people that work for the outside companies living in the US or the country where the surgical procedures are performed? Are they US citizens or residents born and residing in the differing countries? # 5 depending on which website I visit I see some complications or none to quite a bit. Are there any long term studies that would prove the complication rates one way or the other? What types of complications might occur? My mother died from morbid obesity at aged 49 and my sister who is 28 is in her way to that same life. I am not only doing the research for studies but also hoping to encourage my sister to look into all of her options before she has the same fat as my mother. Thank you for your time and I welcome all replies positive or negative. Willie

Other forums are open and I have gotten some great real life responses as well as professional ones.
