Ladies: PMS and Restriction?

Recommended Posts

I had my first fill about a month ago and have had good restriction, but not super tight. In the last 2 or 3 days, I've noticed that I can barely eat anything -- when I have more than a few bites of food, I am FULL -- last night I had half a chicken breast for dinner and I didn't realize I was STUFFED until it was too late. I didn't PB, but I started worrying that I was doing damage to my pouch. At first I couldn't understand why it was suddenly so tight, but then it occurred to me that I'm PMSing and I get bloated during the few days before my period.

Does anyone else have this problem?

Absolutely. 20 days out of the month, I'm slightly loose, but perfect for the way I want to keep my band. 6 days out of the month, I'm too loose and looking to graze, then 4 days out of the month (PMS) I'm too tight. During that time, I can still eat, so it's not crazy-too-tight, but it's what you describe -- having to be careful and getting full on really what it too little food (like 1/4 to 1/2 cup where usually I eat a cup).

It all comes out in the end, but yes, it's definitely not your imagination.

Thanks. I was starting to think I was crazy. Or worse, that something had gone wrong (slipped band, etc.) when I've been following all the rules! I'm going to do a day or 2 of liquids and hopefully feel back to my normal self.

Twice during PMS I have had to have an emergency unfill due to being closed off completely. The rest of the month I had been completely fine. I am now too loose due to this, and as a result my weight loss has totally stalled out. I have been stalled for months (well actually I have been bouncing up and down the scale anywhere from 2-6 pounds). I don't want to get another fill though, because it is horrible being closed off. It's up to me now. I started doing power yoga for 45 minutes a day and am planning on adding a half hour walk at night as well. I'm hoping the exercise will kick-start things. I only have 60-65 pounds left to lose and am frustrated. I just want to reach goal and be on maintenance. I'm sure if I was a man this would not have happened. Sometimes I hate being a woman.

I get tight the day before my period starts, and stay tight for at least 2-3 days. This last time, I couldn't eat anything at all for one day. I always can drink Water, so I don't worry about it, since I'm OK/perhaps too loose still the rest of the month.

I was actually planning to go in for another fill in 2 weeks, and I think now that I'm going to have to stay where I am. I can actually FEEL the restriction all the time and it's terrible.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
