I totally agree with you on sneaking in unflavored Protein. Pre-op, I'd add half a scoop to lentils, chilis and Soups - basically anyplace you'd add nutritional yeast (except popcorn which I didn't try). Post-op I've been adding it to broth and strained miso Soup, as well as to sugar free Jello. I also like adding flavored nectar powder to plain Greek yogurt and mixing.

I'd love to see a line of savory Protein powders like Nacho cheese, Curry, Ranch/Onion, Roast Turkey. Added to plain yogurt or even soy milk, they could be a nice change from sweet protein shakes!

Now you've got me hungry for another shake!

I love the idea of savory flavors of Protein Powder. I'm only 6 days post-op and I'm weary of all these sweet options :-P

@@gettingsleeved1 - I think you are officially in the Cult of Protein, some one please get him a decoder ring and let's teach the secret handshake.

I really liked the Isopure right after surgery. I was doing 1 to 1 1/2 per day the first couple of weeks to get Fluid and Protein in.

Curious where u got your Isopure? Everywhere I have looked it is crazy expensive.

@@RhondaF - Crazy expensive? Have you seen the price of steak? Where else are you going to get 40oz of Protein for $3? I usually get a few at GNC.

Someone you know might possibly have been googling today for 1960s-housewife-molded-Gelatin recipes. I'm thinking, Knox unflavored Gelatin powder, unflavored protein powder, and some salty fish/chicken/veggie broth? Jello mold in shape of a fish optional.

On Amazon they are $64 for a 12 pack. Seems pricey to me for drink.

Check GNC. $20 cheaper

OMG, molded jello! My grandma loved those! Maybe aspic recipes, too...hmmm. Retro food, here I come!

I happened by a GNC on my way to the subway last night and decided to pop in and try one of the Isopure clear drinks. They were having a buy one get one 50% off everything in the store sale so I immediately forgot everyone's advice to NOT stock up before surgery and ended up buying a bag of Isopure Zero Carb vanilla, Quest Peanut Butter Flavor, a Blender Bottle, some single serve Proteins, PB2, etc.

Ooops.

Also, the red Isopure drink was not delicious. But given that it is clear and has 40g of Protein I think I will keep 2-3 bottles on hand for the days immediately post op.

Isopure is $5.50 a bottle at my local GNCs but they are always buy 3, get one free. I have found lucky Vitamin.com to be the cheapest place to buy them. If you buy 2 cases it's enough to qualify for free shipping and the price is around $3 a bottle or so.

I personally prefer the Orange and the Grape. Don't get me wrong, they are not delicious, but I like them better than the alternatives.

I've wasted a lot of money ordering shakes that I quickly lose my taste for. Slim-fast High Protein was all I could stomach before surgery but now it makes me gag. I could tolerate Atkins before and can only barely get those down now. I posted this on another thread today (and promise I'm not being paid by them to say this!) I picked up Core Power Protein banana Milkshake at the airport earlier this week and it was absolutely delicious. Not too thick or cloying and seems to have all natural ingredients. I think they have other flavors too but I'm sick of the same vanilla, strawberry and chocolate ranges, so I'm going to stick with banana. Shame about their packaging though - it looks like a 'muscle' brand but the shake inside was absolutely lovely.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
