Has anyone been on a cruise since their surgery?

Recommended Posts

I've been on 9 cruises so far, so I'm not new to cruising at all.

I'm just curious what my next cruise will be like. Right now, I'm just over a week post-op. My husband and I are taking a road trip to Florida at the end of next month (I'll be 5 1/2 week post op at that point) to visit his dad. Yesterday he asked me if I wanted to take a 5-night cruise out of Miami, right after the week we spend at his dad's. While I would normally jump at the chance, I'm unsure of it right now.

I have no idea on how meal times would go. I know at that time that I'm just starting out eating normally again. I can't see us doing the main dining room dinners, so I assume we would do buffets for all 3 meals. He said he was fine with that. Also, do you think I'll be able to take my sea sickness meds (bonine---similar to dramamine)? I normally start taking that 2 days before we leave and then take it everyday during the trip.

I don't know if I'm over thinking this or what. But my mind is saying to wait til next summer. I don't know. What do you think? Were you be able to do a cruise so early after surgery?

You would have to be very careful eating as you will still be getting used to solid foods. Any foods you haven't tried since surgery can have sudden unpleasant side effects.

Then again, a good opportunity to focus on all the activities, rather than food. It might actually be very liberating to NOT be ruled by food.< /p>

Depends on how you look at it.

@@Lovin2lose

NO!!!

i would not want to take a cruise in early of stage of WLS

i would wait 6 months to one year before taking a cruise

i would enjoy myself at a better weight/new lifestyle

i would feel better/confident about myself at a later time PO

able to STRUT my stuff! ;)

that is just ME

now i will contradict myself and say you would probably love

the cruise now, and have a great time

how's that for a definite/maybe

once again - for ME, i would wait til next year

YOU must make your own decision

btw - i am 4.5 years PO

hubby and i are taking a 10 day cruise to ALASKA beginning of August

3 days land, 7 day cruise (nights included LOL )

tom will Celebrate being married to ME for 25 years!!!

tom is very smart

after all, he did marry me!! LOL

i'm not "too" scared about the food etc on the cruise

i will indulge a little, but i will be careful with food

or i might just throw caution to the wind and say the helllll with it LOL

consider myself at GOAL these past 3.5 years

i am 6 lbs over goal, hoping to get rid of a few lbs before trip

don''t know about sea sickness meds (good question)

cruise?? yes or no

whatever decision you make

will be the right choice for you!!

continued luck on you "voyage" through sleeveland!!!

kathy

Hubby and I are also avid cruisers.

Looking back, I could have done very comfortably at 6 months post-op the kind of cruise we do. But before then I'm not sure I'd have enjoyed it as much.

FYI, the lines we enjoy don't offer buffets, so we always order off of menus.

Nonetheless, others have reported here that they have cruised happily much sooner out than 6 months.

I cruise a lot and travel a lot. My surgery is Aug 10th, I am sailing the brand new Harmony (3 nighter) in early November and my first river cruise (christmas market) in late november with three week land vacation. I am not at all worried about the cruises. Yes, it will be sooooooooooooo different and I'm hoping it won't be difficult to watch others eat on the river cruise. I am more worried about my time stuck in airport and airplanes and making sure I'm getting enough Water and liquid.

With your Caribbean cruise I would definitely meet with the Matrie 'd and tell him/her straight out you've had that surgery and what your restrictions are. Because if you try and just ask them to hold back the potatoes (or whatever carbs) they just won't do it. You have to make them understand but they will. For my Carribbean cruise, I don't plan to eat in the Main Dining room. I will just go to the buffet, where I can select my own portion size of Protein and veg. I can be in and out of there in no time and not watch others linger over their food and wine.

Also, get up on deck and walk for exercise and all the ships have gorgeous fitness centers. I think you'll do fine.

Four weeks after my surgery I have to fly to NY for my nephews (very Italian and very elaborate) wedding, and a week later, my best friend is getting married in Tampa. I guess I will only be on soft food by then. Those will be a challenge but probably not, since I likely won't be tempted to do anything stupid that early.

We are avid cruisers and love to travel... I will probably wait until I'm eating real food and at least 6 months out, just for safety's sake.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
