Confused, Irritated, Nervous.....

Recommended Posts

My surgery is scheduled for 7/6/16 but found out today it may get postponed. Apparently they didn't read all my paperwork clearly. They are just realizing I haven't used my cpap machine since 2009. So now they want me to go have a sleep study done before I can have surgery so that I can bring my cpap machine with me to the hospital. I am on day 2 of my pre op liquid diet and I'm beyond upset if I'm doing this and it gets delayed. pity party I know.

Well that sucks. Glad I am out of managed care. (yes I know that is of no help, but I am feeling rather smug about that decision).

Since it was their oversight, suggest that you are available to do a sleep study test tomorrow--Monday, or even over the weekend. Be assertive, but not aggressive.

There is still time to get it done. They need to step up and make it happen---in my opinion.

Good luck and let us know...

I don't know how they missed it which ticks me off even more. But also being on the liquid diet pre op and may not need to be just yet. I need answers ASAP and tomorrow is Friday. Ugh!!!! Just venting.

That is what I am hoping for. They told me today that they faced my info over to a sleep center and should get a call soon. That was at 11am. Never got a call. Here is hoping for one first thing in the morning. Thank you.

I would call THEM.

I would keep calling until you are scheduled or released from having the test.

I would graciously remind them that it is THEIR oversight , not yours.

I would remind them that you are already on your pre op diet.

I would ask them why do you need to have a sleep study test if you haven't used your CPAP in years and you "ain't" dead yet.

I would advise them that you are available for testing Friday, over the weekend and Monday.

Way back in the day, when I was pre testing I refused to have a sleep study. I had absolutely no history of any sleep disorder==no apnea, no snoring, notta, nothing. I suggested and my Dr. agreed that I take a pulmonary function test. That is the test that fire fighters have to take yearly to ensure their lung capacity. Why don't you suggest taking a "PFT" (medical jargon :) ) It is much easier to schedule and takes much less time--about 1hr.

Can't hurt to ask, right?

Back in my day, the PATIENT was always to come first. What happened?

I will keep my fingers, toes and eyes crossed for a satisfying outcome for you, Friend.

Let us know what you find out--every step of the way. Yes, I'm nosy, but I REALLY care. See? now I'm aggravated for YOU. :)

I hope everything works out. They just decided I have to see a cardiologist, but apparently I have a very busy surgeon, so I have time to get it done.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
