My bypass surgery was Monday, June 20, 2016, so I am 4 days out from surgery.

I think a nurse told me that I could drink Crystal Light after surgery, but I don't see this on my food list. However, they served me Crystal Light in 1 ounce portions while in the hospital. Crystal Light has aspartame and it's my understanding that the body processes aspartame just like sugar. I don't want to experience dumping. Anybody been told they can or can't drink Crystal Light after surgery?

I had bypass surgery 10-1/2 weeks ago. I drank Crystal Light after surgery. I bought the single serving packets, and I believe they are made with Truvia (Stevia and Erythritol). Crystal Light can be used after surgery. I've never heard of it not being okay.

Congrats on your surgery!

I drink crystal light, and have since surgery. I don't notice that it has any ill effect. I'm down 72 pounds since my surgery 12/29.

My team highly recommended Crystal Light post-surgery. They even suggested mixing my Protein Powder in it. Haven't tried that yet, though. Within a day or two I was drinking two 20oz bottles of Crystal Light fruit Punch a day and never experienced any kind of adverse effects.

My surgery was also on Monday, June 20th. I was given CL, too, and it hasn't harmed me at all. In fact, thus far, my taste buds are still 'thinking' the same way and my body, other than getting full fast, really hasn't rejected anything -except MOM. Tried that today and tossed up for the first time since Monday. On a side note, I lost 10lbs since Monday. Wow.

My surgeon's office encourages Crystal Light for those of us who don't like plain Water. I also like the sugar free kool-aid drops. They are my favorite.

Crystal Light is pretty much all I drink to get in my daily liquids. I think the only thing is that some of the flavors taste "sweeter" to me if that makes sense than others. I can't drink the fruit Punch for that reason. I also have recently found that they offer different flavors with caffeine that I occasionally drink as well since I don't drink coffee or any other caffeinated drink.

Crystal light does have aspartame in it even the single serve packets. I was checking them today cause I'm sick of Water. But I've found since cutting out soda most flavored drinks are becoming too sweet. I did end up buying the propel single serve packets. They don't have aspartame in them. However it says to add one packet to 16.9 fl, so I added two to my 32 oz bottle and it was still way too sweet next I'm going to try with just one packet.

I flavor my Water every day. I use the Crush flavor packs. They come in orange, grape and strawberry. I also use CL and Walmart has their own version which is my all time favorite!!!! They have many flavors, but cherry limeade is Play with your options if it means getting all your Water in!!!

I was told to stay away from caffeine because caffeine is a diuretic, and for every 8 oz of caffeine you drink, you must replace with 8 oz of Water. Unless you are more than 6 months to a year out from surgery, I am wondering why you would drink caffeine.

@@Renkoss not all rules are set in stone. I take a diuretic for a medical condition (not WLS related) and my WLS team has never advised to drink extra Water. I was also told that I can continue drinking coffee as normal and I come from a Cuban culture. We drink a lot of espresso! Different strokes for different folks I guess!!

I'm 10 almost 11 months out. I only drink the caffeinated Crystal Light at work since I work nights, 12 hour shifts. I can't remember any caffeine restrictions from my surgeon though. I think the caffeine in one pack of the Crystal Light was equal to 1/3 of a cup of coffee. Something like that.

I'm drinking a crystal light iced tea with lemon right now! Easier to get fluids in this way rather than just Water. Never been a huge Water drinker; unless it's really hot and I'm sweating, but even then it has to be really cold.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.
