Scale recommendations - I don't trust mine

Recommended Posts

I recently bought a new scale (my previous one that I loved broke when moving) and I don't trust it. This morning it said I was down 14 lbs from yesterday and I know that's not right. This afternoon it showed a much different number. The scale is in the same spot on the floor, I'm standing the same way, etc. So I don't think I can trust this scale.

What scale do you have that you like and trust?

I just got this one after my original one went wonky. I know it's accurate because the day after my weigh in I had a doctors appointment and it was only a pound off, and I'm assuming that was clothes + shoes.

I replaced my scale because it was inaccurate. I would stand on the scale and take a measurement. Then I would repeat it and get two totally different numbers, sometimes several pounds off.

So what I looked for in a scale was something that was repeatable. A scale that I could read without having to bend down to read the numbers.

I went to Bed, Bath and Beyond and purchased a "beurer Model BF-66". It gives readings in 0.2 pound increments. The readings are repeatable. The readings are large and visible. I have used it for 3 years now and I am pleased with it.

Thanks for the recommendations. Keep 'em coming!

I'm just so sad right now. I just bought this scale this week and already it's being wonky. Disappointing.

I have the same one as @@Caribear

I highly recommend it. I have had it several months and it is very accurate.

Mine says I'm 14 pounds heavier than the one at my doctors and I'm keeping it, because it makes me nervous and on track. No sense in getting cocky at this point.

Thanks for all the recommendations. :)

I could deal with a scale that shows a difference between it and my PCP's office. I just want it to stay consistent. Like if my PCP says I weigh 350 and my scale says 355, that's fine. As long as the next time my PCP says 345 my scale says 350. Ya know? The same difference, nice and consistent. I just don't want a scale that is inconsistent from day to day. Like this morning it showed me being down 14 pounds from yesterday. Um, not possible. Then this afternoon it went up 16 pounds. Nope, not reliable.

"This morning it said I was down 14 lbs from yesterday"

I'd marry that scale. My talking scale says: "Hey, only one person at a time porky!" when I step on it. :)

I use the FitBit Aria Smart scale. Love that it keeps track of my weight and body fat online and in the accompanying app. I have a few years of weight history at a glance and it really keeps me in check. The body fat measurement is grossly inaccurate but it seems to be pretty on the money weight wise.

I was just watching Good Morning America who measured body fat in a Bod Pod (they considered "gold standard") and then took body fat measurement on 6 different scales. They were all off. The Withings scale was inaccurate in body fat by 9%! Supposedly that scale is no longer made and they have improved their electronics. Anyway, all to say, if you get one with body fat % on it, don't count on it to be accurate as @@Alex Brecher said. http://abcnews.go.com/Health/comparing-accuracy-body-fat-scales/story?id=40082433

I have an old Weight Watchers scale that has 5 buttons to keep weight for 5 different people. I used it to show my initial weight, my surgery weight, my goal weight. :D it is interesting to hit those first 2 buttons and see that in fact I truly did once weigh over 330 pounds and now I do not! I find the weight to be very accurate and it measures to .1 of pound. I have considered buying a new one, but seems this one still works....

I have this one

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001KXZ808/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

and I like it very much. seems to be pretty spot on and the numbers are big enough to read without my glasses.

I'd immediately rebox that scale and take it back for a refund to wherever you bought it! No need for something so inaccurate!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
