ChrisInc2 56 Posted June 23, 2016 (edited) Can someone tell me if some Drs don't do the whole sleeve can they do that and leave your sleeve bigger than what you was told or do they all do the size like you was told at the classes and Dr visit. banana size? Curious Edited June 23, 2016 by ChrisInc2
autymn 27 Posted June 23, 2016 There are different sizes because they use a tube to measure. It's some French measurement tool. Different doctors may have different preferences. Mine doesn't use the absolute smallest size because it would make the sleeve too small (in his opinion.) ChrisInc2 56 Posted June 23, 2016 (edited) @@autymn ty so basically I should ask my Dr I just assumed that they would use the smallest since we're doing a surgery that cant be changed, so how did you do with the size that you have. I really appreciate your help. Edited June 23, 2016 by ChrisInc2
bellasmommy99 48 Posted June 23, 2016 I found this image from obesity help. My surgeon uses a 40. Bougie. It is much smaller than I thought. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
OutsideMatchInside 10,166 Posted June 23, 2016 @@ChrisInc2 Studies have shown over time it doesn't matter what size they make it and making it smaller, has little benefit and increases complications. They use the bougie as a guide, but they can only get so close to it when they are cutting. I have no idea what size I have, when I did my pre-op research I learned it didn't matter so I didn't care. I wanted a doctor with a good surgery outcome and I found one. I am doing great with my sleeve and the restriction it provides. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24577879 http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23023201

I like the idea of finding a surgeon who has good results. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
LipstickLady 25,682 Posted June 25, 2016 Mine was a 36. That's my surgeon's standard.
