And I'm beyond frustrated.

I'm down about 35 pounds total. That includes 19 I dropped before surgery. I thought I would have been beyond the 50 pound loss mark by now.

I am in contact with my nutritionist daily. She's as confused as I am, but is optimistic and extremely supportive. I'm doing my 3 small Protein packed meals. No Snacks. Average a gallon of Water a day. 30 to 60 minutes of cardio at least 5 days a week.

I'm just not losing anything. I'm so frustrated. Anyone else stall this early???

A 35 pound weight loss is great. I have found it helpful not to have expectations around losing a certain amount by a certain date. I am not in control of that.

What I can control is:

Following my program.

Tracking my food.

Focusing on getting in all of my Protein (100 grams) and fluids (64+ oz) daily.

Avoiding starches, added sugars (especially high fructose corn syrup), and fried foods.

Taking my Vitamins and supplements as directed.

Practicing mindful eating: eating slowly, taking small bites, and chewing thoroughly.

Exercising.

And, learning to embrace the inevitable stalls.

You do not mention protein.

What is your protein target? Are you reaching your protein target every day?

Getting enough protein is critical for healing and weight loss.

Embrace the Stall

How many grams of Protein? How many calories? Stalling is normal but be sure you are getting enough Protein especially with exercising. My plan suggests eating 5-6 times a day.

I'm 40-60g of protein daily. I was eating 5-6 times a day, but was forcing it. I just wasn't hungry and ended up feeling sick.

That is not alot of Protein. What about having a Protein shake snack?

We eliminated it because I was bloated and stalled. I was only having 3oz at a time, but it was too much for me. I was skipping meals.

60 is the bare minimum in Protein you need to you don't break muscles down. Most people that have been obese for a long time need more Protein because they have more muscle.

40-60 G of protein, you are probably barely cracking 600 calories a day. Your body is probably in starvation mode.

Try a different nutritionist.

Also I can understand not wanting to drink Protein shakes, a lot of them have a lot of sodium.

However you could try adding collagen to regular drinks to get more Protein.< /p>

Skipping meals is one of the absolute worst things you can do for your metabolism.

Is the Nutritionist experienced in Bariatric Surgery? The most important thing is to get enough Protein and fluids. 40-60 grams is not enough. If you can't drink a pre-made Protein Drink - try making your own (bloating may have been from lactose) or drink Isopure (clear Protein drink).

That's why we eliminated Snacks, to prevent skipping meals.

Protein Shakes were starting to replace meals. I'm not even on full foods yet.

That doesn't sound like enough Protein at all. My team said that by two weeks out I should be getting 60-80g a day minimum, and less than 60g of carbs, sugar, and fat. Calories should be around 1000 a day, and I should be eating every 3 hours......

My diet is different now as I am further out, but those were the recommendations the first two months.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
