Hey guys! I wanted to hop on here to ask if anyone out there has a Fitbit or something along those lines. I'm interested in purchasing one but have seen mixed reviews.

If so, what kind of device do you have and what's your experience with it? Any recommendations?

Thanks!!

The waterproofed fitbits on Amazon are waterproofed by another company NOT fitbit, so the fitbit warranty could be void if it becomes Water damaged. The fitbits in their original form arent waterproof, but some entrepreneurial person obviously buys them, waterproofs them and sells them on.

Could be worth it to some who swim a lot but i think id then look for a tracker whos manufacturer makes it waterproof rather than rely on the third party

I have a used Jawbones and Fitbits. I feel like the Jawbone was more accurate, but the customer service, user-friendly app, and comfort of the Fitbit one. My favorite out of all of the Fitbits I have owned is the FitBit HR (though I leave the HR monitor off, it's not very accurate and is a battery suck.).

My daughter bought a waterproof fitbit for herself at the same time she bought mine. Her husband stepped on hers while washing his motorcycle (don't ask :) ), it became Water damaged and Fitbit replaced it---no problem.

I love the Fitbit Blaze because not only does it track steps, heart rate, sleep, etc., but you can also use it to track your workouts.

I was a fitbit user for a long time. Fitbits start off really good but they pretty rapidly deteriorate, becoming really inaccurate. This hasn't just been my experience but the experience of several friends.

We all work in the tech field and we feel it is a flaw in the components and amount of heat they are exposed to being worn on the body. Similar things happen with cell phones when the users keep their phones in their pockets all time.

The more active you are with your fitbit it seems like the faster they die. And they don't really die, they just become inaccurate, giving vanity steps, simply stop recording, or won't sync.

The fitbit customer service is awful. They were good when they first started but now that they are so large, it is terrible. Then they removed a lot of recording features that people were using on the website.

I think Fitbits are a great way to get started and I really love the community aspect of Fibit and the challenges (even though lots of people cheat. I watched a lady in the nail salon put her fitbit on her son while she got her nails done and he ran around like a wild animal).

I use a smart watch now, but I think fitbits are a great starter tool, if you get one that syncs.

I have a fitbit. I got it while I was on my liver diet - so about 6 weeks ago now and I love it.. I have the flex which is the simplest model and the only one that is Water proof. I talked directly with customer service from fitbit about it because I wanted one that was for sure safe to use in Water as my exercise method is aqua aerobics.. and they said the flex was fine to use in water up to a certain depth (which unless you're going snorkling or deep sea diving shouldn't be an issue). It's easy to use and because it's so small it's comfortable to wear and pretty bendable and stretchy (except where the tracker is in of course) it's easy to sync to my phone and it syncs with My Fitness Pal so if I exercise a lot I earn extra calories on MFP for the day (though I don't usually use them but it's fun to see "You have earned 200 extra calories from exercising today!" pop up!) I'd definitely recommend the flex.. now if you don't want to go in the water or don't need to go in the water I really like the looks of their brand new Alta as well.

This is good to know... I was thinking of getting one. I noticed being summer is the best time to get one. A lot of stores are having a sale on them.

I find my Fitbit very accurate and a good exercise and food tracker. My only complaint with my flex is that it has just died a few times. But to the company's credit they send new one when I email about this problem.

I have a Jawbone Up and I LOVE it. I've worn a lot of other trackers (Fitbit, Nike, garmin) and I just love the interface. I also have an Apple Watch that tracks for me but I still wear the Jawbone.

My favorite feature is the alarm that you can set to remind you to move. I have mine set for every 15 minutes. If I'm still for that amount of time my band gently vibrates and that's my cue to get up and move!

It's very easy to add and track food and specific types of exercise. The sleep tracking part has really helped me- I was sleepwalking and my band showed a pattern of what time I was getting up and for how long. Now if I can only figure out where I have been going all those nights...

Best of luck! :)

I have the Jawbone Up as well and I love it! The sleep tracking is one of my favorite features, and I love that it looks a bit more like a Bracelet than a Fitbit. My husband now uses my old Fitbit and it's great for him. I think any of them does the job, it's just personal preference about the app and the look of the device.

I love my fitbit. I purchased it in January. I have the ChargeHR. I track my steps, heartrate, sleep schedule, use the alarm. I know I should exercise more, but it's difficult with the excess weight. I also got different fitbit covers to dress it up. I love the different patterns. I wear it everyday since then. Only have to charge it every 2-3 days. I could go on and on about it. I love it. Worth $150 to me. You will love it...Give it a try.

I have a friend who does Iron man competitions....she had a Fitbit and then bought an Apple Watch....the step counts were wildly different now between the two so she tested one day....minute she got out of bed she counted her steps then checked each after 100 steps.

The Apple Watch was right on ! The fit bit was off by at least 50%.

That did it for her and she has since been dedicated to her Apple Watch.

I personally use an Apple Watch but have friends and my partner who use and love Jawbones. I love the Jawbone UP app and have my Apple Watch sync to it.

On a side note I have an extra Jawbone UP , black size large with charger if anyone is interested. 25$ OBO

I think maybe nothing will be 1000% accurate but the gist is motivating yourself to move more and be healthier in general

Fitbit inflates steps, sometimes wildly. They are known in the industry for vanity steps. I walked in the mall on day and watched the steps count on my app, and it was 3 steps for every one step. And I was just in the mall to walk and test it, I wasn't shopping I was mall walking because it was cold.

I got my FitBit Alta a few days ago, and I have noticed that it does inflate steps sometimes at a 1:3 ratio. Its a bummer since I love it so much, but I just make sure to remember that my steps arent always exactly what it says they are. I do love the sleep monitoring, distance, and calories burned features though! So its worth it for me.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
