One month out - pain in back when drinking

Recommended Posts

I'm one month out and so far have been rather event free since getting my sleeve. Today I am getting this pain in my back every time I take a drink - of anything. Wonder what is going on! Today is my surgeons "surgery" day so I won't hear back until much later. I do NOT think this is ER worthy plus most staff is not aware of WLS or sleeve. Just curious if anyone here had experienced anything similar. I had band for over a decade and it feels like something is stuck. I didn't have the problem last night and drank until going to bed. Thanks.

@@WantToBe Is there a nurse at your surgeon's office that you can call? My plan indicates if you feel like something may be stuck - try a small sip of pineapple juice and walk around a lot. I don't know what the potential complications are with having the band removed though. Good luck.

Thanks. I kept up small sips of Water and pain is finally gone. It was a wake up call because only thing I had between last night and this morning was my tiny synthroid.

My mentioning band was to reference the same feeling as when food was stuck with band. It might have been my synthroid pill. But not sure why. I found with band moving arms and doing "chicken" walk worked. Works well with sleeve also.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
