Question re: self-pay lap band

Recommended Posts

Hello!

I am having my surgery in about 10 days in Mexico by Dr. Ortiz - as a self-pay. I have been trying to get some perspective by reading about complications - such as slippage, hernias, gall bladder issues, or anything related directly or indirectly to the band.

My question is this: For complications, I would go to a hospital in the States for care. Would insurance cover, since it could well be related to the band? Has anyone gone through what I'm wondering about? If so, I'd really appreciate your perspective.

I would imagine the insurance should reimburse me - what if I had had the band on a previous insurance policy - I have no "pre-existing" clause in my insurance (Aetna POS Choice in Pennsylvania).

Just wondering -- because self-pay for any kind of hospital stay/procedure would be a horrendous financial burden to place on my family!;)

Thanks, Danielle

Danielle - Congrat's on making the decision to get banded.

If I were you I would call the insurance company and ask your questions.

My insurance company did not cover LBS - and would not have covered any issues that would have - or will happen as a result of LBS. They will not cover my fills as well.

But each policy has different clauses -- so give them a call and you will have the best information possible.

Good Luck!

Thanks!

I am trying to get reimbursed after the fact, so I will reach out to them for this too.

I can tell you that even if they tell me they won't cover any complications/health issues that they deem related to this, I will fight it tooth and nail!! After all, I'm doing this to forestall health complications. It's so silly even to have to worry about this - I could have easily have done the surgery on a previous insurance policy a few months ago, then joined this insurance and have to deal with health issues related to this.

Anyhow, just venting. Thank you for your experience!

Danielle

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
