I found out today that my surgery date is June 29th. My surgeon hasn't told me anything about a diet but I know most people do one. His nurse was gone when I went to call today and won't be in the office again until I see him on Friday. I'm not sure if I should just do a Protein liquid diet like what I've heard others having to do just to be safe for what. Any thoughts?

MY surgeon suggest 1-3 Protein Drink with Water ONLY, & lean cuisine, healthy choice or smart ones for dinner. 64 ounces of Water. Hope this helped. Good luck. I start it tomorrow!!!!

My surgeon required 1 day liquid only then nothing 12hrs before surgery. I believe the reason for extended dieting pre surgery is to shrink the liver so it is easier to move out of the way during surgery. I have watched many videos of the procedure and everyone uses a special tool to move out of way so I'm not sure why some have diet for so long.

I am June 28th. I had to start the pre-op diet on the 14th. My surgeon is having me drink a Protein Shake for breakfast, another for lunch, and then a turkey sandwich for dinner (3 oz turkey, no mayo or cheese, lots of veggies on the sandwich). Hope that helps.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
