Will I ever enjoy food I like again

@@sharonintx what a relief to read your post. I live in Cajun Country (South Louisiana) and as we say here, "If you lips are not numb, it isn't spicy enough." :P

I thought I would miss ginger ale and Kola Champagne so much I would implode, but I don't miss them. I don't even think about them really.

I gave up soda couple years before surgery. I would have one, maybe once or twice a year in the time that I had given them up, but I have really just lost the taste for them.

I was really addicted to carbonation. It felt so good on my throat. I got my allergies under control and without the post nasal drip down my throat all the time irritating me, I didn't need the carbonation to soothe my throat. I was self medicating in a way with carbonated drinks not really realizing it.

Oh I kola champagne was my favorite with some pr food on the side lol but I want to change my lifestyle.

Yeah I miss PR food, but I don't desire it. The only thing I could probably eat is a Jibarito. Rice and peas is about the only time I ever eat rice, and I am never going to have that again. I miss Rellenos de papas too. Some things you can't substitute. I have in the past been able to make low carb jamaican beef patties. I'm thinking about the Rellenos de papas and maybe I can sub rutabagas for potatoes...

The nice thing about surgery is, before surgery I would have thought about it, and then my mind and body would have worked together in tandem and I would have been hungry and obsessed with it until I got some. I am thinking about it now and I know I like it, but it isn't triggering any physical hunger. I like that I can think about food in abstract terms.

At the end of the day though, I enjoy wearing bodycon dresses and high heels more than food. I never thought I would be there, but I am.

It's all a mental game. I'm hoping I'm as strong as you are

The sleeve makes it easy. If anyone would have told me about the disconnect between the brain the body as far as hunger and cravings I would have been unable to believe them. It surprises me now how well it works.

I think it is also easier once you get to a certain point. Like now I can wear normal sizes and shop just about anywhere. That is something I won't give up anything. I never want my shopping to be limited to a few stores again. So that is a great motivator.

I have experienced to eat food now with no bread no tortilla I'm Hispanic and ate everything with tortilla. I love bread but have learned food taste better without the carbs. As you get more into learning your stomach intake it gets easier and now I find myself not caring or even wanting the breads or tortilla. Burgers were my favorite before. I'm still wanting things I can't eat but I make the best of it by making better choices. It does get easier day by day.

Is it the carbonation or is it the ginger ale "taste?

If it's the taste itself, try this: (It worked for me and root beer)

Crock pot a chicken in diet ginger ale. :)

I know. It sounds really bizarre, but it works. Try it and let me know...

Or just drink a flat diet ginger ale, but that's not getting any Protein and it's not nearly as much fun.

Good luck!

One of the really cool things of being very limited in quantity, you can invest in quality. There was no way I was going to buy a "grass fed organic" steak at Whole Foods before WLS. Too expensive. But, when you are only eating 3-4 ounces...you know that changes things. A half a pound is now three meals. And that's what I am doing. Really great food, just less of it. I have not been back to New Orleans post surgery, but I am so looking forward to going back to Mother's (if you have never been, Google it, it's great).

Try Pinteresting low-carb versions of your favorite foods. There's a ton of recipes I have saved and I cant wait to try them. My husband does Atkins so that makes it a bit easier for me...and my kids will just be healthy because they will be eating whatever I cook for me and DH.

I too think about not being able to eat my fav foods again, but my lifelong plan is to still enjoy them (of course if I can tolerate them) but certainly in moderation!!! As for now, I plan to be low carb-high Protein until I get the bulk of my weight off.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
