Staples/stiches come out?

Recommended Posts

Hey ya'll!

Thank you for all your help lately.. This has been such an experience and I love hearing from you all who have walked it!

I have my 1wk out post op is in 2 days and I was wondering if the staples or stitches they use to close the incisions stay and heal or if the surgeon has to take them out.. Im trying to prepare myself if this is going to be a very painful appt or just an easy in and out appt.. Thank you guys!

Guess that depends on how your surgeon closed the openings. Mine said I will have stitches underneath that dissolve and glue on top. Nothing for him to remove.

the staples in your actual stomach stay so no bother there. and the others I had dissoluble stitches under neath glue. this should be a pretty easy appointment for you.

I had regular stitches for my incisions, and just had them taken out yesterday. Just a simple thing of snipping each one and them pulling them out. No pain at all.

How long was your post op? Mine will be 8 days tomorrow..

What do your incisions look like? You should be able to see if it's glue or stiches.

I had them removed at day 7 after surgery. So I had surgery on 6/13, they were removed on 6/20. My doctor told me 7 days, no longer than 10 days.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
