So nervous but so excited

Recommended Posts

Surgery is June 28th, I'm so scared but so darn excited. I've been heavy for 24 years, I'm just exited to loose this damn weight and excited to eat healthy. One year ago on June 16th, I had a massive heart attack at 43 years old, my lad was 100 % blocked and my RCA was 99% blocked. I have 3 Stents all together. So the only reason I'm scared is my heart. I did have permanent heart damage to my left side. But I have turned my diet around as far as eating more lean meats and vegetables and fruits, I just sometimes cheat with the sweets, I'm excerising 5 days a week I lost 30 pound but it's been a year now and I haven't lost anymore so I decided to get help with surgery. I'm so excited to get started on this new journey.

@@Shaunie I'm the 5th as well. Thankfully, I gave up my coffee last month, so the Migraine will only be on this pre-surgery diet. Managed to make it through today without one, but I feel it trying to creep in! 1 day down, 13 to go

It's the worst!!! I hope it gets better. My poor children are going to pay for this ;-) I didn't even think to cut it out prior. The cutting back on everything was plenty to handle lol. Good Luck! Where are you from?

@@Shaunie I start the liquid two week shake diet tomorrow. I'm so nervous. I use to get really bad Migraines before my hysterectomy, now maybe one every few months. I'm scared this liquid diet will give them to me full force. I am a coffee and Diet Coke drinker. I hope you get better.

I started it yesterday. Yesterday was bad!! Today a little better, but I do have to confess I'm thinking about doing a 1/2 caff coffee just to get the headache to pass. Not sure what to do...

I would probably call your doctor or nurse to find out what you can have to curb the Migraine. To be safe. Migraines are awful.

Do you have any Migraine meds you are allowed to take? I am prescribed some anyway from primary doc. I can take them up until 10 days before surgery. So that will get me through the first 4 days of liquids. Tomorrow is my pre op visit.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
