Day surgery or overnight stay?

Recommended Posts

I think it depends on your surgeon and program. Mine is one day overnight for pain control mostly. But I've read a bunch go in the am and leave in the pm barring any complications

Mine was an overnight stay -- first thing the following morning I had to do a barium swallow so they could see everything was flowing OK, then I was allowed liquids for the first time. Since I was walking fine, eating (well, drinking) fine, I was allowed to go home that evening. In the meantime I was on IV support and had a PCA for pain.

Seemed like a good system -- but since I've never had surgery before I have nothing to compare it with!

Mine is a 3-day, 2-night as well. I am actually not having my surgery until 2:30-3:00 tomorrow so it will be late. I am surprised that it would ever be a day surgery--seems like such a major surgery to have.
