Hey everyone! I'm Erin from Illinois! I'm scheduled for surgery in 2 days and have been on my liquid diet for 6 days! I'm excited to get the ball rolling and done with surgery!

I'm the momma of 5 girls(first two are twins)and have tried to lose weight with every diet! I've been more successful at educating myself than I have been at permanent weight loss. (HW:262, SW:228, CW:222)

I'm one of the patients who chose to go to Mexico for surgery so we fly out tomorrow. My husband is going with me. I've chosen a great doctor and am quite secure in the idea that everything is going to be great!

So here we go! If you're having surgery close to the same time I'd love to keep in touch!

Hi Erin. Welcome!

You are on your way to great things.

I know the feeling of wanting to get to surgery already.

I did great in the months leading up to surgery and was even an excited ball of energy until they wheeled me into the OR. Everything went fine and then I woke up. That was a weird experience. My first. But I got over it pretty quick.

I'm a couple weeks out and I keep losing weight. I am feeling as good as someone on a full liquid diet can feel. After week one I felt back to normal.

Read my journey. I have a feeling we will have a lot to share.

So glad you're here. Midwest is the best.(MN)

Today I leave the hospital. I feel about 95% back to myself! I'm not hungry and have been sucking on ice chips. Today ill begin my liquid diet after my swallow test. I expect it to go quite well as they've already done a swallow test in the OR. So far so good. I haven't hit any emotional walls yet and I'm glad my husband was with me to support my journey. Yay! Onward and upwards

I made it home and will sleep in my own bed! Yay! I feel great! Truly! I was able to keep up with my normal airport pace and my incision sites feel great! My doctor used stitches on the inside only so I won't even need to have those removed! And the skin is already back together nicely and looks great!

I know that there is trepidation regarding the safety of surgery in Tijuana. I felt it from all angles. My mom was worried, my friends concerned etc., but I can tell you that I never once felt like I was in an unsafe situation or uncared for. My patient care coordinator went out of his way to make sure we(both myself and my husband) had everything we needed. It really was much much easier than I ever imagined(and I totally thought the people saying it was easy were lying!)

Now onto learning how to use this new sexy stomach of mine. The post op diet gives my stomach a chance to heal as we introduce new types of foods(I'm on Clear liquids now). I'm not even a little bit hungry so I need to keep myself on a schedule to make sure I don't get dehydrated.

Please...if you have any questions ask away! I'm an open book and would be happy to do my best to answer!

I feel really good. Still working on sipping and learning about this new stomach. I went for a 1 mile walk yesterday and painted my bathroom. My incisions look great! One has a bit of a bruise left but it doesn't hurt. :)

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
