I haven't had my sleeve gastrectomy surgery yet but I'd like to know about loose skin. My body mass index started around 36. Now with me losing weight pre-surgey it's down to 33. Will I end up having loose skin. I'm 5'11 and currently weight 239lbs.

Loose skin. I don't know of anyone who loves it.

However, I'd rather have the loose skin that all of the fat that used to fill it. :)

I believe that there are many factors:

How long you've been obese

How much weight you lose

How fast you lose the weight

Personally, I think genetics play a role

How elastic your skin is.

Given your stats I wouldn't think that loose skin will be major for you.

I say all of this as I, personally am heading for skin removal surgery this summer. UGH!

Keep posting and letting us know how you and your skin are doing. :)

My doctor told me that the loose skin around my belly could be surgically removed. I told him, that at 62 years old, all I wanted was to be healthy. My "being pretty" days have long since passed me by!! :) If I started trying to surgically alter all of my flaws, Donald Trump couldn't pay the bill.

Hello, ol' timer! Here I am 63yrs and heading for skin surgery. For vanity??? Hell no! :) Those days are gone --along with the Yankees winning season! :)

However, I am having skin removed to save my spine. Go figure, right? My orthopod and my bariatric surgeon agree that removing the loose skin will keep me from having another spinal surgery.

So bye, bye skin. AND as long as he's "down there", he will "fix the thighs and lady bits".

I'm just glad that at 63yrs I still have "lady bits" that warrant fixing! :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
