i have just changed the bandaged on my incisions and was very surprised with the sizes. I was told I was going to have 5 small ones and 1 a little bit bigger for the port, when I have looked I have 3 about 1cm 1 about 2cm (which has pulled open a little bit) 1 about 5cm on my left which I thought would be for my port and then when I checked the last one was about 7cm just above and left of the belly button.

so my question is that what kind of incisions has everyone else ended up with and it this normal???

Thanks

I have five incisions. One is as big as an inch wide. The others vary between that and a half an inch. They are healing nicely. I am allergic to steri strips and almost all adhesive so they used some special glue that I am still reacting to but much lighter than I normally would.

Yeah my big one is about 3 inches long and I think that's strange.

Glad you aren't having to bad a reaction to the glue and you will have a neater scar because of it to

My gallbladder incision was @ 3in - the gallbladder was infected and they required a bigger incision to remove it. It's possible they needed a bigger incision to remove your stomach or they needed a larger incision to get good placement of the surgical equipment.

@@Chez2812, if you had surgery on the Tasmanian side of the Equator, there's your answer.

Seriously, not all incisions are equal. Three inches does seem quite a bit, so you may want to ask next time you see your surgeon. Considering your goals and history, though, don't let the size become unnecessarily important. Over time it will fade and become less noticeable. My port incision, on the right, seems now to be about one and one-half, but, if I recall, appeared to be two inches and perhaps as long as two and one-half.

Surgical techniques vary. Some people have fewer than five incisions. Some surgeons do single-incision (inside the navel) procedures. At least, it was being done when I had surgery.

Best wishes as you for forward.

Hi the size of the incision doesn't worry me in the slightest and I normally scar pretty bad but that is all small in the scheme of things I was just wondering what size on average everyone else had as I was expecting it to be about an inch long not about 3.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
