Severe heat exhaustion after RNY...

Had any one else had issues with heat and added stress to the body due to higher temperatures?

I knew this summer was going to be a challenge working on the tarmac that's 140+ degrees and am outside temperature upwards of 120+. I drink a ton of liquids....literally feels like a ton. I am outside at the airport most of my shift.... it finally happened that I passed out yesterday from severe heat exhaustion

I am gonna try drinking more coconut Water and definitely getting more electrolytes, as that's where my biggest issue has been in not replenishing those...some I only drink Water.< /p>

I was just curious if anyone else had adverse reactions to the higher temps as well and what you may have done to combat it? I've got a few more months of this junk... ugh. Lol.

Fat is a good insulator. As I lost weight, cold temperatures began to affect me more. I was actually more comfortable with the heat. But you are dealing with extreme heat.

I drink a lot of Powerade zero. It seems to help more when I feel

Dehydrated.

I have been very dehydrated since surgery. I am on a diuretic for acne. I have just finally started to get enough salt and be able to drink enough to be less dehydrated. If you are in the heat, you may need extra salt and a lot of fluids. Consult with your physician/surgeon, but some people take salt pills if the bloodwork is showing low sodium or potassium. My post op diet has so much less salt, so I need to make sure to eat salty things to compensate. Coconut Water can be dehydrating possibly if you drink too much.

I am training for a marathon this summer and I have been using Gatorade G2. It is similar to regular Gatorade, but has much fewer calories. Its 30 per serving. When I have a long run, it keeps my electrolytes up and gives me a few carbs to work with, not quite enough for what I am doing, but it sure helps. I mix it half and half with Water. My favorite is the Raspberry Lemonade. Good luck..

That's crazy extreme weather, I think anyone would faint out there working in that heat. I also have a problem being dehydrated even though I drink tons, I only drink Water with electrolytes, plain water doesn't do it for me. I work about being dehydrated after surgery because I won't be able to drink as much. Definitely drink electrolytes and take breaks!

Yeah, I do take breaks.. but it is still just crazy hot outside. I knew it was going to be a challenge. What I have been doing is keeping a small ice chest with fruit with me at my gate while working my flights and that has seemed to help wonders, as well as drinking a bit more stuff with electrolytes and getting a little more salt in as well.

Hoping I can be down to my goal by the end of summer or close to. I know I am only 4 months out, but I've been making decent progress and plan on keeping it up.. even with the crazy heat and the 150 degree temps on the tarmac at the airport, lol. On the plus side that only lasts for another couple months before the temperatures break with our weird monsoon season!

I would be careful with the coconut Water though.... the sugars are quite high in some.

Try to cut down on the fruit, the sugar in them will also not help... maybe cucumbers or another high Water content might be a better choice.

Perhaps buy an electrolyte mix and have a glass everday.. try having some foods with a high water content... stay away from caffeine and foods that pull water from your system.

Also, wear a hat and cover up...

Thats the best advice an Australian who is used to high heats can give so far ☺

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
