I had surgery Friday, August 17th and I am having painful gas pains. The surgery sites are fine except for a little sore when I try to lift up or turn my direction. Does anyone have any suggestions. Also, the morning of my surgery I weighed 230. I weighed this moring and I weight 231. I haven't hardly drank anything yesterday because of the tight feeling I get. I am going to start on my Protein Shakes today. Can anyone help me?:help:

Gas pains are quite normal, and can last anything from one week to three or more. Where are your pains? Have your tried pain killers?

Dont worry about your weight at this stage, the first 5-6 weeks is about healing, the weight will drop off after

Walk walk walk walk walk walk....believe it or not IT WORKS. Each time you walk you are going to find that air starting to move around in your body. You're gonna be doing a lot of burping and (ahem) farting and you're gonna be happy for EVERY minute of it! Each time you get up to go to the bathroom or something, take a complete tour or two around the house. A heating pad also works wonders.

oh that is my one complaint. i had surgery the monday before you did. everyone kept saying the same thing. walk walk walk. its true, although you may feel like you dont really want to be walking.

also have someone rub your back while you are holding a wall in front of you. if you have a hubby or boyfriend or someone you can be naked in front of, even better.

i'm very sore inside. i was over my boyfriend's house until today, and his scale said i was heavier also, the day after surgery. today, the scale at home tells me i lost 3 lbs more.

don't do that to yourself with the scale though; its a terrible mind game, especially for women, the way our bodies fluctuate from hour to hour.

wait a while before you visit the scale. you just had surgery and they may not even have you on a diet yet, only liquids until you heal a little bit.

you will be great!

I am 3 days post op. The gas pains have not been bad. I used to drink tons of Diet Coke daily so maybe I was used to lots of gas. One of the things I highly recommend is warm Chamomille tea. They gave it to me at the Hospital & I've been drinking it ever since. The walking does help but Chamomille tea is marvelous & it helps with the swelling & gas as well.:teeth: Not sure but I think is is naturally anti-inflammitory. Used to give it to my newborn every day with Light Corn Syrup when he was born 9 years ago & we never really had gassy baby syndrome either.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
