My surgery is next week and I'm starting to get anxious about post-op pain. I'm having one incision in my belly button (laparoscopic). Can anyone tell me about the post op pain so I know what to expect? Thank you.

Everyone experiences surgical pain differently, so you can't possibly predict how you will feel from how others did. I had the "usually" 5 hole laproscopic sleeve done and pretty much had no pain. No pain pump in the hospital and took no pain meds once discharged. In fact I walked two miles and went shopping less than 24 hours after surgery. I just experienced some muscle fatigue like I'd done a hundred sit-ups. But others report tremendous pain and needing narcotics for a week or more.

That is a very great recovery!

Rest easy with the knowledge that what ever your pain level is, your bariatric team is experienced and ready to help you.

If you whatever post-op pain med you wake up on is not controlling your pain, speak up and tell your nurses.

Every one is different. Some pain meds work well for some and not at all for others.

Your Bariatric Center of Excellence will be there to help you figure out what pain meds (if needed at all) will control your pain.

Trust them.

Trust yourself.

Now, go and worry about something else----:) you know you will. We all do! :)

Keep posting and allowing us to follow your progress. I have the hunch that you will do very well.

Great advice! I guess if I can have 2 c-sections and the lap band, I can do this! I am also worried about the pain afterwards since in the hospital it will be managed and the recovery time.

I am scheduled for Aug 17 and go back to work Aug 27. Will I be ready? (White collar position, no lifting but a lot of mental stress.)

I am a strong believer that if your mind is ready, your body will follow.

If you're of a positive attitude and have no post op complications, I believe you should be ready to go back to work at a white collar job.

Now, don't prove me wrong... ;) I HATE being wrong! :)

Best of luck and keep posting on how your journey is progressing, please.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
