One incision vs. Six?

Recommended Posts

I met with my Surgeon regarding having the sleeve surgery and he informed me I have the choice between the six incision procedure vs. the single incision. He explained the recovery time is less and the pain. Seems like a no brainier decision, except it bumps the base price up $3k more.

Anyone out there had the single incision sleeve surgery? If so can you, relay your experience.

Thank you!

how large would the one incision be? I had 6 but honestly 4 of them were only about 1/4 of an inch, one was maybe an inch and the other one only slightly larger where they pulled out the stomach.

Haven't had the single incision one but there was really very little pain with the regular way. If it was me I would ask the surgeon ehich method they would rather do regardless of the cost

It's done through the belly button, so no scars at all, which is good bc I already have four from my gallbladder surgery.

@@jessicajas37 Please let me know how it goes. My surgery date is eight days after yours.

@@jessicajas37 Thank you! I can't wait to hear how your surgery goes.

I'm not sure on about having the gallbladder removed after this surgery. Mine was removed in 2008 bc I had gallstones.

I would not bother with this. I'm almost 2 years post op, and I swear I can only find one of my scars now, and it's astonishingly faint.

Only two of them were an inch long. The others were all about an eighth of an inch.

And $3K extra sounds to me like one of those car salesman add-on things that happens just before you sign the papers -- and is where the dealer's profit comes from.

I think it's odd that people will pay extra for a single incision, but later don't seem at all bothered by Tummy Tuck scars.

My BMI is 36 so hopefully I won't have to worry about loose skin. The reason I'm looking at the single incision is because my husband works overseas and is only going to be home for four days of my recovery. I'm self-pay and I'm already into this $$ so if my recovery is sooner I'm willing to pay the extra.

If I were in your situation I would go with 1 incision if insurance was paying but as self pay no way. It is not worth 3k believe me!

@@rubia72 They go through your belly button so not sure how big the incision is but I know there won't be any scar. They refer to it as the scarless incision.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
